What's so special about VSL? Are you a composer yourself? I really can't see a reason to need VSL if you aren't a composer. Any other string library will work well enough.

UVI Falcon was once a highly anticipated release, but after R2R posted it, everyone seemed to forget about it.

bx has the same plugin as Plugin Alliance and UAD, but because it is not widely available, everyone thinks UAD's ‘sounds better’. Although the developers confirmed on the KVR forum (as far as I remember) that they are identical.

BUT ! Personally, I have not used VSL plugins, and perhaps they have some interesting solutions and approaches in terms of technical implementation and ease of use.

 

Yes... There are some brainworx plugins available on the UAD-2 platform (because they were originally made for UAD-2 and then ported and updated for native) but there are also a lot of UAD-2 plugins that are only available on UAD-2 (and now some UADx native), like the MXR Flanger Doubler, KORG SDD-3000, Ampex ATR-102, Neve preamps and comps, AKG BX 20 etc... All officially licensed plugins, approved by the real manufacturer that you can't get anywhere else. That's what sets UAD apart I think.

There are a lot of vendors that create their own emulations, but they're never officially backed by API, Neve, Lexicon etc... And then you have things like the AMS Neve DFC that is a 1 to 1 port of the real hardware's digital DSP code that you simply could not get anywhere else either. I think people forget that a lot of the plugins that are now on native from the likes of brainworx and softube, were originally designed for UAD-2!

I would also add that those plugins are just BEGGING to be unlocked. Anyone who has UAD interface knows that you have to install all their plugins even if you don't use all of them, and you can even demo each one if you want for 14 days. Even if you don't click to activate the demo, they still let you turn the knobs and mess around with it, just without any audio output. That's where I think R2R may have figured out the solution, I hope. I imagine the iLok acts as a middle man that prevents audio output of the plugin until it detects a license.

Any thoughts on the possibility of Crow Hill? They recently updated everything and have a dedicated installer app. Cosmos was released, but it isn't up anymore, and it seems to be the only legacy product that was released on the sister site. Also, you could download Cosmos by The Crow Hill Company (worth £10 GBP) for free using a promo code at one point, so possibly no DRM, which is why it ended up there.

This isn't what is listed on their website; the vertical piano is discontinued, and so is Cosmos. This is what shows under the developer on KVR. Here is what shows when you click the link on the KVR page for Cosmos, Drop Demon, and a few others, which leads me to believe this is not updated to reflect the current offerings from the developer.

When FL stopped their Pattern System, my brain went nuts and i didn´t make that good tracks again.

They should sound identical, especially if both are native versions. Brainworx codes the SSL stuff, the amp sims, Ampeg, and all the bx tools for both PA and UA, it’s literally the same DSP just wrapped for each sales/licensing platform. They are not "ported". They actually had to respond to this on KVR?

If you were to mix and match legit versions of both UA and PA, the difference would be getting stuck with another "software manager app" on your computer. You have to use the PA one to download, activate, and update; but aside from that you can get rid of it. If you have mostly PA, and you add some UA plugins, you will be stuck with their UA Connect software, and the iLok manager app.

 

The best part of R2R releases are the NFOs where they disparage the protection and make snide comments at the dev. So if there's a big one coming, I'm going to enjoy it whatever it is. The Acustica NFOs were absolutely epic.

Much respect to R2R for keeping truckin' on.

 

Yep for me the nfo's were better than the plugins

 

Its been updated and renamed like some of their other products it's renamed as Marshal Piano. The update is free to all owners of Vertical Piano.
