You´ll prolly get a lot of likes from iLok-haters for this comment but frankly.... I guess most ppl can figure out what they need to accept before they have access to these libraries?!?

Two activations on computer OR iLok
Anyone can sign up for a FREE Pace account in less than a few minutes and it needs NO DONGLE.

You mean SF LABS? It definitely works offline. You have to "install" it with their SW though, if that's what you mean..

 

iLok doesn't need to be online after activating the product.
Library itself needs to be installed from Vienna Assistant, no offline installation packages.
Their sample player works offline.

LABS worked offline too last I tried.

 

Yeah, but that's not the point. You're still forced to connect to a server every time you want to active the software on a new OS. When people are talking about offline, they're really talking about portable offline INSTALLERS.

 

So is your PC in a place where it can't get onto the internet or is it because you don't want it to connect at all?

 

@ArticStorm I totally understand the frustration, believe me.

The problem is, only a small part of major library/instrument devs do not force you to use some kind of "download manager". The difference is if that that software either a)installs only b)also has to run in background etc. - the second being unacceptable for me..

I use a lot of NI and SF and I have to swallow it - forced to use their "installers" (SF is imo the least intrusive). I tried Arturia Augmented Strings (free) and found out I can't uninstall their "manager" if I want to run the instr. I liked it, I'd buy it but that's a no go.

And to get (sort of) back on topic, I just watched the VSL "How To" video and there is a dl/intall sw, again - Vienna Assistant. TBH, these get on my nerves more than the iLok acc. They really want my comp bloated to the MAX?!

Does anyone know how this Vienna Assistant work?
Does it have to remain installed on the sys? Does it have to run when using VSL instruments?

 

1: I dont think so..... but why uninstall?.... There could be more freebies comming?
2: You dont need to run it while you´re using VSL instruments.

Ugh - iCok plus additional downloaders and online installers... wtf?!

1: dont bother if you cant accept the prerequisites.
2: might be but I guess you´ll be more interested in the full/pro libs than the free ones

 

An interesting find, yes - & thank you for the share - but I will, indeed, spare myself the grief of all the prerequisites! :')
I do like to find nice little freebies like this, though and would very much like to try them out should they happen to appear anywhere in a more user-friendly form.

 

No, I've never bought anything that is iLok protected
I pay for the property, the owner is me, but I feel that I don't really own the software since I have to ask someone for permission to use it. I feel really unconfortable having to ask the dev for the favor at every launch.
Also, I want to be free to use my app even in an offline situation, this occurrence is more frequent than you think: unconnected recording studio, or plane or boat. In these cases, any apps / plugins that need dev's approval will fail.
At that point, I consider this to be a software malfunction and I'm ready to ask for a refund
