Well, if that's true then they (nord) just sank themselves. I would never mess with any VPN that has anything to do with any sort of requests to turn over logs, data or anything else. Personally I don't see the point of a vpn who does - comply. The only VPNs that anyone should be messing with are ones that run servers in RAM and do not log - anything. I have always looked upon nord as a shady operation in the first place, so good riddens.

For years there have been persistent rumors that NordVPN is a covert CIA outpost. Now decide for yourself whether you wanna use it or not...

It's an illusion to think that there's commercial VPN-services available that will protect you if you're engaging in (serious) criminal activity. Law enforcement eventually will find a way to catch you if what you're doing is high profile enough: they will hack the VPN-service itself if needed, or use any other means necessary to identify you, follow you, hack your computer/smartphone and install spyware, etc...

The common use cases for using VPNs as a regular citizen is:
    • to prevent dragnet surveillance,
    • general privacy when browsing (porn),
    • preventing commercial parties to identify you (those pesky advertising companies)
    • to be able to torrent freely (copyright infringement is technically a crime, but not serious enough that they will try and wiretap NordVPN in Panama)
Reality check: NordVPN or Panamanian government are not going to protect you for 100$ per year if you're the mastermind of a 1 billion dollar crypto scam. But they're not going to bother about you downloading some audio warez.

If you're living in a dictatorship and your government can put you in jail for simply expressing an opinion, you're better off using Tails for all your sensitive activities. It's a bootable linux OS for a USB-drive, runs 100% from RAM and exclusively connects to the internet through Tor onion routing network. Using Tails/Tor there is no central party that law enforcement can pressure to log information since it's a distributed, encrypted network, and it leaves no traces on your computer since it runs in RAM. It has its own pitfalls, but it's a much safer option than a VPN if privacy is a matter of life or death.

ExpressVPN keep all their logs on RAM that get deleted every morning automatically. Much more secure. They've also refused to hand over information in India. Much better. Audioz should dump NordVPN and adopt ExpressVPN.

Mullvad was raided by Swedish authorities but they had to leave empty-handed because there was no data to surrender.

The documents are public if you can read Swedish.
