If is is .exe the you have to have an Intel mac(since you said you have a mac ....I assume it is Intel mac) ,also with Wine bottle or crossover installed to to open such files.Hope this helps you.

An exe is an application not an archive. Even if your own an intel mac you'd need to run a virtual machine or duel boot it with windows.

So no they are not the right ones, your trying to install a windows program on a mac. Get the mac version of the program or duel boot. Doing a VM is one of the less desirable options.

Also just for future reference, unless you see that a program is SPECIFICALLY labeled for mac don't bother dl'ing it or asking about it because trying to cross platform this stuff is not in the best interest, even if you have a super fast mac.

I say this mostly because you're not the only one who seems to do this and you'll find people get annoyed with it especially when they figure out your trying to use pc stuff on a mac.

So like I said either duel boot windows on your mac [if you have an intel mac] or just get mac software. Because while you'll hear of programs that let you use PC vst plugin's on a mac it's not the same as running a windows application on a mac.

So yeah as I said if I were you unless you specifically see "MAC/Macintosh/Hackintosh" on something it's not for you with out taking a lot of extra steps that are probably out of your technical range.

Why i unzip a file, why are there 20 more zipped files? I tried unzipping a few of them but they all looked like they are the same stuff
    thanks

WinRAR, that's all you will ever need and in my opinion it's WAY better than WinZip. The reason there are more files is because of scene rules and it's there to minimize corruption. If you're downloading a large file and it gets corrupted you're boned but with smaller files you can simply redownload a much smaller piece of the whole. Sometimes someone else that is distributing will again compress that into just one file because it can be a pain to have to repost links if 30 files go down instead of just one. Just extract the rar inside the first file and it will extract the data from the others.

Look more closely. You'll probably see that they contain part of a multi-part rar. There should be a file in each zip that ends in a number, like xxx.r01, xxx.r02, etc. There should also be one zip that contains a file ending in xxx.rar

You need to open all of the zips and then put their content in one and the same place. Otherwise you won't be able to unrar them.

These multi-part files tend to originate on the Usenet. The reason why you have many parts is that in case you end up with one corrupted file you only need to re-download that part, not the whole file. It saves bandwidth.

Someone has collected all the bits for you and then re-packed them in one big parcel. The reason why he leaves the original parts as they were is that release groups get seriously annoyed if you tamper with their releases.

Doesn't work on the Mac you need to manually collect all the parts. At least when using UnRarX. Might work when using Stuffit Expander? I tried 7z and Unarchiver and ended up with incomplete files.

[Edit]Just tried old Stuffit on an innocent bystander and there you have to manually locate all the parts. Not very convenient.

If you unzip the parts on Windows are they not enclosed by a folder. Just curious?

Wow really I thought they're Mac version worked similar to the PC one and they do or at least did offer a version for that OS. Then again what would I know because I don't like the Mac interface among other things so I never use one. Also if the folder was set when being compressed, sometimes they don't set that option because I have also had files that extracted without a top level folder on PC.

I think Rarlabs did indeed once offer a version for Mac. You can still get the CLI tools from them, which work fine. I occasionally use them for making rars. Never for opening though, as it's just quicker to double-click and have- in my case - UnRarX open them.

    > The enclosing in folders. There might be a hidden preference to stop the default Archive Utility on the Mac from enclosing unzipped files by a folder, but I usually want it to behave like that.

It's all good though. You just have to tell people once to put all the .rxx parts and the rar in one place. Then double-click the rar.
