    Hey fellow Audiosexuals :)

I'm searching for a non-x0x vst (maybe also max for live) drumsynth, i.e. no sample based plugin.
So far I've tried µtonic (like it), drumatic (meh), tattoo (nice but not hands-on enough) and the fl stuff (meh meh).
I'm not really happy so far.
The sound I'm after: analogue-ish, minimalistic, percussive, noisy.

    Any ideas?

years ago, but I'll give it another shot. thanks!

Thanks, I did google on that topic first so I know this list.
I really meant non-x0x and not sample based and with the ones I mentioned the list is pretty empty :)

    There's also this:
    http://www.thirdharmonic.net/exd80-free-vst-drum-synth/

    It's free.

    Here's a short example:

  7. Microtonic is nice. Have you tried Arturia Spark software? It has both drum synthesizer and sample capabilities.

every synth can create drum sounds as long as it has noise in the waveforms.

    Hi ffm,
+1 for Arturia Spark. Its modular area lets you get quite creative in sound creation, and it's certainly good for the sound you're after.
i've found SparkLE SW+HW for very cheap and didn't know it before, but I was surprised how well it worked especially for analog drums, but also for more experimental stuff.
Also, ImageLine Drumaxx might be quite what you're looking for: Analog-sounding, flexible but not the 1001th x0x imitation.
I was also very pleased by RP punch, especially the - indeed punchy - sound I got out of it.

Drumaxx, Spark and Punch all have internal step sequencers so you can choose to program patterns inside the VSTi/AU instead of the DAW, if you want. Of course they sync with the DAW.

Finally, FXpansion Tremor is specifically written for analog drum synthesis, but I've found that with Punch/Drumaxx/Spark I just got more variety and I found tremor rather limited and uninspiring if I wanted to go beyond the x0x sounds. Maybe that's why it isn't exactly popular.

I did try many other drum synths, but they rarely offer more than any better wavetable synth, uTonic included.

I would also highly recommend Reason's Kong virtual drums for physically modelled drums for a sonic palette between analog and acoustic: Kick, Snare and Toms have separate models for Analog and Acoustic, but as far as I remember you're no reason guy.
I always have a Reason demo handy just for Kong *yes*

you mentioned max4live there is this
    https://www.ableton.com/en/packs/time-timbre-skinnerbox/

Arturia spark you can go in and edit the moduals its not all sampled based.

but it depends on the drum machine you want a software version of.

you can make alot of interesting drum sounds with modular synths like the Arturia moog modular experiment with using the frequency shifter in your patching.
and you can also create interesting synth drums with fm too.

There's also alot of free stuff if you look around a bit:
    http://www.vst4free.com/index.php?plug-ins=Drumsynths&l=0

    http://www.vstplanet.com/Instruments/VST_Drums.htm

Like CM-505, BasicBat (extended shaping parameters), Drum Boxx... Maybe you'll find something usable (I posted that list because some of those have non-sample based sections).

    hi ffm
I love the ones from D16 group, if those qualify as non xOx. the nepheton is the obvious of the set for 808 emulation, but I've fallen in love with the nithonat 606 sounds lately. realy clean, I can do a lot with them

thanks for all the suggestions above, I do like drum machines
