I search for a VST to reduce the noise of a vocal... Its this typical noise you get with bad microphones...
I searched for noise reduction plugins, but all I found were Gate Plugins, and I dont understand them... I just want a simple plugin where I can reduce the background-noise...

x noise or z noise by waves. but the best noise reduction plugin is really a good mic and a good preamp. thats te shiat!
most of the times its the preamp that has a hiss and because of the bad mic, you have to turn the gain up alot, which causes even more hiss.
    circle of satan.

witch is a good thing... hail satan!

Reaper's builtin ReaFIR does noise subtraction, the results are not as cool as the other programs but it will get you there.

Quality wise from the ones I have used I rate them in following order.

    ReaFIR
    Adobe Audition
    Soundsoap
    Wavearts
Oxford, Waves z/x noise, Izotope RX2 (the 4 tying for the top spot)

you should just check out gates..thats why they are called 'noise gates';)

every signal UNDER the threshold gets completly wiped..
so u have to set the threshold that the lowest signal u want to pass thru (e.g. whispering voice) went untouched thru the gate.thats it.

its the cleanest way to get rid of noise, bleeding drum mics,..

    good luck

what Daw do you use? some DAWS have included nice noise reduction plug-ins, for ex Samplitude and Fl Studio.

apart from ReaFIR that was mentioned by Xsze and Threadkiller i can recommend you some more free ones,

Noise Removal tool from Audacity here small video

    Noise Reduction by Christian Budde

a cool Noise gate Floorfish here a tutorial if you want to check it out

i agree with you *yes* , but when you need to fix a more complex restoration project, typical(attack, release, hold, threshold) noise gates aren´t enough(which are great for drums, guitar, bass etc).

Noise reduction tools offer more controls, you can capture\print\create the noise profile, of the audio track that contains only noise (some tools include common noise samples "hum,Hiss etc") which then the tool will invert the phase of those frequencies and blend with the rest of the audio track,

also you have the inverse option that lets you hear only the noise that you are going to remove, and some include Spectral Cleaning for more precise removal.

if you do EDM and not use mics or live instruments to record stuff or dont record videos that them might require cleaning the audio, you probably wont need noise reduction tools,
but you can use noise gates in a creative way

Well, i do a lot of audiorestauration. i digitize old 16mm,8mm and so on to DVD.

I´ve tested nealry all of the above called tools..

Very very good VST ! An allround genius...
WaveArts Master Restoration Suite as VST inside DAW

    Music Production Side
Bias Sound Soap 2 inside DAW - this what i use for sampling from there to the mixer and in the MPC. Very simple Handyling and i case of sample restauration a def. go in my eyes/ears..

    For my audio restoration...

I hate to say it cause i am a big hater of Izotopes Ozone ( i know i am alone with that, only my 2 cents)

    BUT

izotopes RX2 is a fucking monster for Audio Cleanup and Restoration Inside DAw as VST but as Standalone outside .. It´´s simply brilliant !
A big plus of that Software is the Dithering/Downsampling option..
Much better than Wavelab, Prozone or Cubase etc can do the Job the 64-bit SRC works flawless... if you want to bring your final master down to 16bit... it´s does a great job..

    peace..

I recommend using the Instant Dialogue Cleaner by Audionamix. It doesn't require as much processing time as RX and can be used directly in your DAW which will save time. The plugin uses speech separation technology that focuses on speech rather than focusing in noise. Its an essential tool if you're a dialogue editor and cleaning up a lot of dialogue tracks.
