Edit: After watching Huang's vid this looks like it could be more exciting in the future. With joint/finger gestures it could go possibly crazy.

I don't like the music it produces, two knobs would do a much better job.

That's for sure, the one's I've dealt with have all been rather modern, sporting the newest and coolest tech.

My thoughts, except I may use more wheels, knobs and faders, depending on the sound.

I'm a practical guy, and now that I've seen it in action, I think it's a bit too gimmicky for me, but there are people who feel they could express themselves better with such air controller than velocity, aftertouch, wheels, and knobs and faders. The end result is what matters. This is absolutely cool, though. Having different options is always good, eh?

Like... you can also use two expression pedals, leaves your hands free for playing the keyboard. ;)

I've actually kinda wanted a Roli Seaboard for a while, but will probably never buy one. But I saw the Andrew Huang video on this Airwave thing when it came out. When i saw the first couple secs, I was like, hey that's a cool idea. He seemed impressed by it. I watched on, with his demo, and I came away really unimpressed, to be honest. This one is not for me. It didn't seem like anything really special was happening here.. OK, an alternative to an expression pedal or other expression devices, but I think the pedal makes a bit more sense.

 

This ROLI is a gimmick, it's for the lazy ones. If want to look cool, well you need to be cool (and genius) and play on a "controller" live like Pat Metheny does on his Orchestrion.

Yes. It's basically a camera system that monitors position and movement of hands and fingers (pretty well I must say).
Based on that you can calibrate position on any keyboard and hands.

The only other item that I can consider similar (MAYBE little less advanced than AW - I don't have a clue) is Leap Motion controller.

@orbitbooster I wouldn't be surprised if Audio Modeling was the only other company properly making use of this new AirWave controller, specifically for their (new) Sections ensemble lineups (not Solo instruments)

 

I have an Alesis Airfx since 2005. It works fine and was really cool DJing in clubs with it.
