For completeness, I would also mention that I have come across REPACK (elsewhere than sister site) in regards to Kontakt libs that were very large, and someone has compressed the samples into containers and/or *taken out* release samples and sometimes mic positions in an effort to reduce the lib size at the expense of the quality of the lib, imho. I would beware of these, re. the latter.
Just sayin'.

 

That's true, it's something several of us do "at home".
Often these Kontakt repacks are complete in the sense they only compress (wav to ncw) or/and consolidate in monoliths (thousand samples to nkx containers). But it's very advisable to keep the original intruments, so not sure if would recommend them.
BTW, it's cool to make nkx containers from ncw/wav files with the inNKX tool. You feel ... "professional" lol (and it's useful specially if you use HDDs)

 

Yeah; containers are cool. But those 'repacks' that have *only* tree mics or AB mics...with close/spot mics missing...argh!
There are quite a few on ru site. From 'repackers' who like to delete as much as poss to get the size down, or even to sonically improve the lib. I've never understood it.
Each to their own, I guess.
I understand the monolith thing though, but I've never done it myself, just used them.

It's a plugin (extension) of the file manager "Total Commander". A bit difficult to install if you don't speak Russian but with Google Translate and a bit of patience...

Well, that's another possibility. Say you download an entire orchestra but you only want to use the string section. With all the mics! ;-)
I use an old but cool metal-rock library called Goth (Vir2?) that come with loops and individual instruments. I only kept the instruments and a couple of loops.

 

Nothing wrong with the old libs! I've still got Vir2 Q Library, and a few others of theirs.
