    I have noticed that on other sites I am beginning to see (quite a lot of) posting of "unlocked" Kontakt libraries. I believe this is something to do with the new security from NI. Can anyone comment on ...

    (a) It is worthwhile to bother with these?
    (b) Why haven't they appeared here (maybe 'cause it's a no to 'a')

    Seems a tad confusing to me...

    I have noticed that a lot of the unlocked libraries have been updated to their latest versions. I have loads of libraries but regrettably most are only v1.0.0.0 :)

    Can anyone enlighten us?

    Cheers and Beers

    I imagine R2R will find a workaround for later releases of Kontakt, but for now I have a few libraries that I cannot use because my 5.6.6 is too old of a version. I can live without Kontakt for the most part. The GUI sucks and for whatever reason NI has never made it better considering how much they make off the program for all the licenses and such.

    Agreed. It seems NI has been falling short of making anything they produce better as of late.. for the most part.
    Unless of your course you just can't get enough of those amazing Maschine Expansions! SMFH

    @krakenfart

    From what I know about these (if we think the same thing) I can tell you this facts (didn't check myself):

    - they are unlocked which means no problems with install (I think this refers to r2r Kontakt releases that needed kg for libs)
    - they work with legit copy of Kontakt
    - it should be easier for e.g. fresh OS reinstall since they can be added to the list (no need to "add library")
    - this is heavily modified, not just resaved stuff (contents of containers .nkr packed in .nkx, where applicable)
    - at the moment you have to download the entire "unlocked repack"
    - at least many of these do not work on Mac (i'm a PC guy so dunno..)
    - for some you have to delete the keys in your registry and rename entries in your *.xml file (like symphobia - all packed together)
    - ...

    So, is this for you? Question is - will you really re-download every Kontakt library? (the repacks being libs that people already have) Maybe worth considering if you don't allready have the library.. Maybe it has something to do /w the new protection, but as far as I know there is no "Thrill unlocked repack" etc. (did you see it?). About your libraries - can't you just find updates? There are all around for most of them.. And for others you just have to dl the whole thing. (I heard they are planning "unlocked repacks" up to 1TB)

    It should be something "future proof" (if we, heaven forbid, lose r2r) - but IMO it's not. Even the authors admit they don't have a clue what next NI move will be.. Maybe r2r is waiting to see where this goes (remember they were the first to point out things are about to change) or maybe they don't give a f*ck and just enjoy the summer :wink: (Wishing them a great time ..from the bottom of my <3)

    They will never appear here (here we discuss), but if you mean "there" - I don't think so either.
    Now you have some info - the choice is yours..

    Please correct me if I missed something

    @Matt777 (and others)

    Thanks for the info. We *are* thinking along the same lines and like you I can only hope the confusion with Kontakt libs can be sorted. I'm slowly going through updating some of my libraries but found some updates were specifically to support "Machine"; a device I don't have which makes the update pointless.

    Oh well, lots of research and manual updating to keep me busy for a while ....

    @Blazin
    For me the worst thing about Kontakt is the ludicrously slow scrolling when you need to sort out and move a library. It must be a deliberate thing 'cause I can't see any logical reason for it. A throwback to v1 maybe.

    Cheers to all.

    Yes, the slow scrolling while sorting the libraries is very terrible:disco:

    Maybe someone knows here a trick? :)

    Listen carefully to the audio engine and discover the poor sound from Kontakt. All those years there has been no improvement whatsoever in the audio engine. It still sounds harsh, digital and overcompressed.

    I’m on os x sierra with logic x and I can’t agree – Kontakt 5.6.8 (au) is working perfectly - even with (very) old libraries. You just have to run Kontakt 5.6.6 stand alone version to install new libraries. This is no problem because both versions run side by side.

    Completely right "JohnEncor" both versions run perfectly side by side
    (WIN 8.1- Studio One)

    Add with 5.6.6 standalone ... then you can work in 5.6.8. vst2

    Recent discovery of mine...

    Scrolling while holding ctrl goes faster, right? But when you take/drag a library and try ctrl + scrolling, it doesnt go faster.

    BUT, if you click on the library you want to move WITHOUT moving your mouse(so only click on it), and then hold ctrl plus scroll, it goes faster. At first you dont see your library "going with you" so to speak, but once you move your mouse after scrolling to desired new location, your library will appear, and you can leave it where you want it.

    Retarded, right?

    Hope it helps!

    Hi @transmit³
    Do you have to add the libraries with a r2r kontakt 5.6.6 and then it will run in a legit kontakt 5.6.8?

    Kontakt audio engine has nothing to do with poorly recorded libs with pre-compressed samples.
    The built-in effect section of Kontakt is somewhat decent except for some old reverbs.
    It all depends on who uses them and how.

    as transmit said.. you can NOT load libraries in legit Kontakt. Unless you have this new "unlocked repack" libraries that OP was asking about. To simplify: till now you only had "unlocked" Kontakt. Now there are also "unlocked libraries" around - mostly on private sites.. these work in legit Kontakt also.

    I do not talk about FX, BibouLeNoob! The FX also sound awfull bad in Kontakt. This is no discussion at all. No, I'm talking about the sample play engine. I suggest you import some samples from the excellent recorded Omnisphere Patch Collection from PlugInGuru and load some of them in Kontakt and do a comparison with Kontakt and Omnisphere. Also do it the opposite way. Your will hear the difference yourself! A difference from day and night...... The problem is that all those companies have lost themselves in Kontakt by the "lack of a good sampler". And that is not true because UVI Falcon sounds a thousand times better than Kontakt. I hope that someday people will wake up and go for the real thing dude!!

    Honestly all I ask is for a resizeable GUI I have a 4k monitor and this little window is crap where I can see MAYBE 2 instruments and I want to use tons more as channels in my DAW. I just wish they could make it so I can see at least 4-6 instruments at one time. Then I MIGHT be happy.

    I installed the 5.6.8 symlink version and kept my 5.6.6 Kontakt.exe so I can add libraries. Keep in mind once you batch save to 5.6.8 tho you wont be able to load files in 5.6.6 any longer. At least I can use Kinetic Toys and Thrill now!
