I would've added a dyn EQ or MB compressor to tame the boomy freqs in the bass. Speaking of which, real bass?

    Other than that, me likes.

    Theres no need!

I appreciate No Avenger's comment and at the end of the day things like this are subjective. Ive had numerous friends listen to the mix and they reported back that the mix sounds good, even one who is an engineer that works in film and post production and I got a thumbs up from him. Boomy or not, what interests me more is that people actually enjoy the music and I appreciate you both very much for taking the time to listen and comment :mates:

The kick is a bit "tubby" for me, roll of maybe a bit higher, say 60hz, and maybe tighten it up to about 120ms, keep it really punchy. I think dnb should have more punch than thump in the kicks, but that's just me. The conga line was a bit too present for me, and the bass was a bit too upfront, being this is a jazzy swinging style DnB. But very good, yes.

I like it. it's a nice little roller.

only a dumb enemy will tell something helpful. otherwise you get nebulous things like "it's just phasey to me". But since we are all obligated as mix engineers with our 2 yrs pandemic enducations now, I think the side chain compression when the acoustic style bass patch hits is causing the compressor to over-react; and the makeup gain of the compressor is pushing it into some midrange overcompression/distortion. Did you use an envelope there like Kickstarter? listening on the 8010s not headphones.

    Love it man.

The Tiger is right it does get a little boomy under 110Hz, there is some resonance from it you can find it again at 850Hz and around 12500 and it sounds like you made a cut at 3500-3600 so it's not so prominent there from 440 to 1600 it sounds good and is giving that bass a lovely mid push. That's all G#-A but it something that can be taken care of in post and it will not reproduce on most playback systems anyway.

The Tiger is just a perfectionist I guess, didn't head it earlier when I was just listening casually on laptop quickly I didn't notice it at all. I had to switch to a listening room and speakers with low end extension and then it did jump out pretty noticeably. I wouldn't be too worried about it though.

Not knocking it, I think it's awesome and thank you very much for sharing it.

    Bloody hell guys.
@No Avenger @JMOUTTON It's normal to have a boomy bass in DnB. Listen to Oh Oh by Noisia, for example (won't post it here), then come back and say again that this one is boomy with a straight face.
It's a valid creative decision that does what it's supposed to, not a mistake.

I think it's fine the way it is.

Also, if Oh Oh is your reference and you think the basses are "booming" in a similar way, then we need a different term because they are not similar in frequency position or push. My agreement with @No Avenger is about a audio balance issue that will on some playback senarios cause some boom-masking, but as I stated before this an issue that isn't going to be audible to most people and most playback systems and I will repeat myself again it's fine the way it is.

BTW the Bass Oh Oh is crowning above 120Hz and sounds like it stops around 450Hz or a little lower. The flub from the kick isn't boom and it's a pretty sparse song bellow 100Hz compared to the energy present between 100Hz and 500Hz. It's heavy from about 140 to 500 then is scooped to about 2K where it has it's second bump to about 10K where it rolls off. Who knows, it's late and my ears could be off but if I had a local copy of either I would be tempted to run an FFT and check but I don't so I just go off what I hear.

    Now - back to it.

I love it, I think it's great and that's all I have to say on the subject. Everything else isn't my dog and not my yard.

Sadly, don't follow me on that road, ain't no fun.

[IMG] Relax mate, all good. We're not attacking @aymat and I'm convinced he got it. We just wanted to point out one (1!) thing we noticed and maybe he didn't?

And what kind of crap is that, please? [IMG] :winker:
    Also, I agree with @JMOUTTON, it's a complete different mix (and a different (sub-)genre).

How do you know that, please?

    Cause it works ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Nobody's gonna listen to it in such a subby-resonant room, or on such a Beats by DreDre, that it will become an issue. Other than that, you're basically advocating for your expectations.
And man. Your expectations are as good as mine. And me and my 7 inch consumer-grade subwoofer in the corner of an untreated bedroom think this track rolls.
