Sup guys, I have posted a track about 2 weeks ago asking for your feedback, thanks to your guidance I managed to improve my mixing and mastering skills (but still not there yet).

I tried mixing several styles, from classical ambient to electronica/trap, I tried using more organic elements to give it that thick and realistic feel, hoping also I'll find a fitting vocal.

I did also the mastering, definitely not that great, but surely a huge progress from last time.

I hope you'll enjoy this genre (Tbh I don't know what I could call it haha), meanwhile I'll be waiting for your opinions and feedbacks (I'll auto followback on soundcloud).

    hi @elias2tife
i've listened to the track and i like the whole vibe of it, a pretty good job production-wise too
the only thing that is bugging me is that it lacks overall 'depth' and is kinda two dimensional
try using cytomic the glue on your mix bus
also prime studio's charly at the end of your chain, that'll give it some dimension and could also help to revive and glue everything together

I used Vertigo on some of my mixbusses, I haven't fully explored this kind of vsts that gives color to the track.

Thanks for the suggestion, I'll definitely keep that in mind when I re-check the mix.

Track's ok. It's all a bit "all anticipation.. no delivery". Kinda. The bass is a lil bit annoyingly plonky, thuddy & static, needs maybe mod matrix stuff happening w/envelopes or even cheesy filtering. Or more care w/ sound select so u can have more movement? The sonar-y blips got old pretty quick.

I kept expecting something rly quick & hi frequency like hi-hats / snr / shaker / etcs breakbeats after a while. Also expected some call & response plus moar variety to textures. Also expected Beth Gibbons (or whatever her name is) to sing quietly about how she's going to cry in a minute, or smthn. So not bad! Haven't listened @ all closely or in crit listening environment, so no mix advice. Plus, y'know, opinions =)

Haaha you got me at Beth Gibbons. Tbh those basses and the 808 they really gave me a hard time, I just couldn't get a clear punch of the kick with a nice and long sub behind, even with sidechain, since I'm using crappy Beats headset to mix it's not helping it all.

I used Sevdaliza songs as a reference, this genre is usually bit slow, basic (like most mainstream stuff), and doesn't have much percs, hi-hats and such. Ahh.. if only I could find some vocals.

Thanks man for the opinion, I'd rather this kind of opinions than a typical 'good job man, nice track', next time I'll aim for a more complex mix and deal with basses in a proper way.

Haven't had much experience with brainworx plugins in general other than bx hybrid which is great
oh and speaking of eq's, try SPL Passeq for mastering next time

I usually have the glue compressor on every track and bus even if the audio isnt engaging the compressor. Except for the master/2 bus. That I leave naked now. I do my mastering with a 48k 32bit stereo render in a separate project.

Cool trak man, I dig it. Nice chill vibe....

I really like it. A mastering engineer would finish that mix in a good way. Not sure if you have the funds though.

Glad you liked it! Unfortunately I can't afford such fancy services, I have met a kind sound engineer on this forum that mastered before some of my tracks without charging me, I just don't want to abuse his kindness.

Hopefully someday I'll get noticed by some label that have it's own sound engineers, huh.. a man can dream..

Do you think it would be better than Pro Q during mastering? In any case I'll start getting into it, it looks like the type of Eq that have a nice analog vibe

Yes, it adds a nice vibe and a brilliant top sheen (you can also try Kush Clariphonic for adding that sweet silky feel to your top end)
Well, usually in a project I'll use Pro Q just for cleaning up any unwanted frequencies and HPF, and for further shaping/boosting I use a different eq that'll add some character like Maag, FG-S/FG-N from Slate Digital's VMR, Kush Electra (I use it for almost all string and wind instruments in a project, but it's also great on drums), also Hammer DSP is incredible on bass

Agreed, pro q is more for sterile surgical eqing. And all the rest you mentioned have different flavors of saturation in them.
All the kush and especially his sly-fi plugs are really nice for adding analog flavor. Also worth mentioning is the lindell te-100. (thanks @Von_Steyr) Sometimes I dont even engage the EQ at all. its just in the chain adding its tube and transformer mojo
