Just got an email from NI... looks like the price for Maschine Studio has been reduced to $799.

Considering Mashine Studio has only been out a few years and they just released Maschine Jam, what are the chances that they are reducing the price in order to make room for a new hardware release this year? I have to assume its either that or they're trying to stay competitive in the marketplace.

If they do make an announcement, more than likely it will be 4th quarter based on their release schedule:

    Maschine release dates:
    Maschine MK1 - April 2009
    Maschine Mikro - October 2011
    Maschine MK2 - October 2012
    Maschine Studio - November 2013
    Maschine Jam - September 2016

As far as improvements go, the only thing I can imagine that they would do is add touch capability to compete with MPC Touch. Unless they go one step further and make a standalone unit like the MPC X.

    Thoughts?

That was my 1st thought as well. And yeah Studio is pretty Komplete. Maybe a bigger display? And some smarter knobs? I dunno.

They are probably starting to feel the heat from the new AKAI MPC's.
Beside the touch element, they might also want to add an audio interface, which would make it standalone just like the new MPCs.

Anyway, it doesn't necessarily mean that a new Maschine is on the horizon, they might want to stay competitive at first which explains this price drop.

Ive been playing with the idea to pick up a second hand Maschine Studio but this price drop has me tempted to just buy a new one. I'm still using an MK1 which works perfectly fine but the displays are what really has me wanting to upgrade. Not sure how I'd feel about something new and better coming out shortly after dropping that much money but cant really bitch about something that hasnt happened yet lol

It's about damn time too.. ridiculous... that means the used ones will have to follow suit..

for a grand the thing should already be a full fledged interface, and do just about everything
including brush your teeth for you, does it? :bleh:

Tell me about it! When I first started making tunes it was with an SP808ex... basically a poor man's mpc... and paid exactly $1000 for it. Definitely limited by today's standards but I could do everything with it. Now we're paying the same or more for stuff that wont even function without a computer. Sometimes I wonder what the fuck is wrong with me lol

$140, and who needs the software anyway... :winker:

Yeah, its hard to justify spending that kind of cash especially since they literally do the same thing lol

A standalone Maschine would be awesome, especially since I'm so used to the workflow... stick a terabyte SSD in that fucker with vst support and I'm pretty much set.

BTW $140 is a sweet ass deal for a used MK1, what condition was it in?

the controller was fine... no issues...clean and works great with some stuff I found in sister site ** snicker **

sure.. they should make it stand alone so you can sketch without needing your daw/computer .. but since they dropped the price that means bigger and "better" things on the drawing board? or just they think they have hit most of the buyers who were
willing to throw down that GRAND... it's a successful product by any stretch..so I don't doubt they have something in the pipeline

I am all for the bigger and better syndrome. But what are they bringing to the table????hhhmmm Lately Ive been seeing way to may manufacturers put into place two or three very simple updates and with creative marketing making make it seem like this is the new mystical product that we've all been waiting for. I'm not willing to shell out major bucks just for a few button upgrades and some new firmware that they probably need to update anyway. This also make me raise the question, what are they leaving behind. I've been caught out there with a perfectly working piece of gear that is now obsolete and I have to wait for however long just to get an update to make it work again. Trying to reinvent the wheel and telling me this is the new futuristic round design is getting tired real quick. Lets see what they do...you never know!!!

I love my Maschine Studio but true MIDI data flowing from pad to pad needs to be implemented. Real-time warping would be cool too. Maybe some physical audio inputs. 64 pads and 32 encoders would be a nice amount of overkill.
This is a little against the grain but I'd REALLY like a dedicated Reaktor Maschine. With 2 touch screens for patching and panels and 1 tall, narrow one for the info view. Touchstrips and X,Y pads.
And a large disk-tray like unit on the side which when ejected is a fully functioning Maschine Jam.

i bet they will come up with an all in one maschine, without the need of running the software, i am sure they will do that with Traktor soon too

I hope people have gotten wise as you have.. if they try to put out some fluffed up box with more buttons, and over-hyped
functionality, it should be an epic fail , but you have people out there with more money than good sense.. and NI knows that..
    so we shall see..

My default position, let the fanboys and simps take the newness, and retail markup hit, and wait until it comes down to a sane price range. I don't mind waiting a few years.. anything the new box can do..could probably be accomplished with some other set-up, utility.

    see ya on ebay !
