Hi, I think the high time has come for my old HP 250 G5 to be upgraded to the newer machine. The live 11 is choking on this machine. And the Live 10 is opening for quite a long time.
Could you suggest any device for around £1000? It could be for £500 but I don't think that "this money" will work for a long time.
I like HP because the warranty is not voided if I open it for exchanging HD or RAM and for the charging bent plug that never broke (unlike Dell I had before).
    I am tempted to grab MSI Stealth 15M 15.6" Gaming Laptop - Intel® Core™ i7, RTX 3060, 512 GB SSD for £1149.
    Any pros and cons?
Or any reliable service for customising or configuring laptops for our needs?

Heavy Audio/Video workloads require the laptop to be externally powered for maximum performance . The exception in most cases is the M1 based Macs

Apple MacBook Air or Pro (M1)
    LG Gram (11th Gen i7, 15,16 & 17" 16x10 display)
Samsung Galaxy Book Pro 360 (11th Gen i7)
Lenovo is also, maybe, worth investigating. Models & current CPU availability vary by region/country.
ASUS & Lenovo both have AMD 5000 series laptops in your price range.

That's a good spec laptop. It has an AMD Ryzen 7 5800H 8 core processor in it, which has a bench speed of 21774 on the cpubenchmark.net website.

    https://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu.php?cpu=AMD+Ryzen+7+5800H&id=3907

The MSI laptop the OP mentioned has an Intel i7-11375h 4 core processor, which has a benchmark of 12436, almost half that of the Ryzen 7 5800H.

    https://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu.php?cpu=Intel+Core+i7-11375H+@+3.30GHz&id=4157

The Lenovo laptop mentioned is only just over £100 more than the MSI but the processor is almost twice as good. I always look at processor bench test results first before anything else on a laptop. The processor is one of the most important things to focus on. Brand is also important, both laptops are good solid brands for laptops, as are HP and Dell.

The other thing you can do to squeeze more out of the laptop is put an NVME hard drive inside, which are much faster than regular SSD drives.

16GB should be plenty but that's something that can easily be upgraded if it ever needed to be.

AMD vs Intel. No cons for AMD?

I consider two models HP 15-ek1009na and Lenovo legion 5 Pro 16. HP is more expensive is equipped with Thenderbolt 3 (if not needed than OMEN 15-en1007na). Lenovo has a better screen resolution but the location of the rear sockets is unfortunate I think.

When I last looked Lenovo Legion 5 was pretty darn good for its price as it had ryzen 7 5800h, rtx 3060, 16GB ram, 512GB NVME storage and a 1080p 120hz screen for £1050.

Not really, unless you are planning to use UAD or other thunderbolt dependent stuff. Yes, you can have thunderbolt with AMD now, but UAD still won't work with AMD (or have major compatability problems at least).

i recently build a system 5600x with a quad uad (pcie), no problems

    @nmkeraj
i am currently checking out a HP Gaming 5600h gtx 1650
amazon warehouse had it for 680 normally over 800.

to my surprise it comes close to the desktop version BUT
just like typical OEM shit it works better if take the the bottom out and hang a 140mm silent fan under a thing like this
    [IMG]
i will keep the thing silent for most of the work
later i will write what kind of similar kits i want to try
    gotagoEAT

    ok
what i think what i need
need 4k(60) video out, better even 2 video outs
i fucking don't want a fucking quad core (they aren't even that cheaper)
Silent or near quiet (mostly home, bit of fun maybe co-labs and such ;)
if i can avoid it, no or, 1 dongle at most!
so gaming is pretty unimportant but video editing might come in handy.

    HP ProBook x360 435 G8 Ryzen 5 5600U 6x(not as much brunt, single thread equal to H)
HP ENVY x360 15-eu0178ng 15,6" FHD IPS Touch, Ryzen 7 5700U 8x(multi equal to 56 but slower in single since zen2 variant)

    next 2 intel

    HP Victus 16-d0146ng
    ASUS TUF Gaming F15 FX506HC-HN188
both 11400h similar spec to 5600h but much better i/O
the no dongle solution hdmi2.0 TB4 or USBC +TB or +DP
and Lan onboard the others only WiFi

    Asus is Probably better @cooling
at this price range HMG and Schenker might be very good alternatives too

17" could result in better cooling too
considerations are (for me) External monitor mostly, so if you need better display
whatch out for sRGB 95-100% and variants of aspect ratio 16:10!
