  1. New product released from Acustica... Indigo!!! Behold the greatest thing since the last suite of plugins from Acustica. Is it just me or does it seem like every month we get a new set of pre amps, eq's, compressors all modelling the greatest gear in the greatest studio in all the friggin' world??

It seems to be much the same with Kontakt libraries and people, observing on this forum.
The answer for people who are addicted to nice sounds, plugins and add-ons, seems to be no.
Theoretically everyone only needs one really good plugin of each type and one really great set of samples for each instrument with the way sound manipulation works these days.
The saying of "But you should have alternatives" has reached new heights.
I read on a post somewhere where the person said they could not mix without a specific plugin. The thing is, every decent DAW comes with enough tools to do a decent mix no matter the preference in manufacturer.

    acustica is shit.
they basically put money over quality products and when you ask them to slow down to optimnise, test properly they say:
NO. we're making money this way in the gayest way possible

Well, unfortunately speaking as a crackhead I'm liking this new Indigo. Its got a clean sheen to the comps and eq's.

  7. How does it sound compared to Snow, the Neve Portico copy? That seemed pretty clean.

A lot more dimensional and creamy. Have in mind it has stereo pairs of preamps and even with preamp disabled, it still has plenty of character.
It's curves, are unlike any other EQ i ve ever seen.

I thinks it’s more comparable to Erin with the color style but a different kind of openness

This is accurate, they both follow kinda same analog path with tubes.

"640K compressors ought to be enough for anyone." -- Bill Gates (probably)

But I'm with you, if anything I'm trying to reduce the amount of shit available to me so I can learn the tools that I actually use properly, and to actually get shit done.

  14. That's my point exactly! I like the stuff they release, but seriously I've only just scratched the surface with Snow and then I get a notification....."THE BEST EVER EMULATION OF THE BEST EVER GEAR FROM THE BEST EVER STUDIO!!!...." and they may well be right, but I haven't even scratched the surface of their last release.

Many people think that if you only use expensive plugins and a fast, expensive super computer, the music will be good too. FL Studio draw in a few patterns and you're already a techno producer today and a few videos with stolen pictures then you're a YouTube star. You didn't want more than that, to see a few likes and your own face on the Internet, for me that's self-expression and has nothing to do with music or art. Most of it is copied and stolen anyway. If you want to master an instrument perfectly, be it a guitar or bass, for example, you need about 9 years, provided you have the appropriate talent.

Kjaerhus once said (analogously) "You only need these plugins to mix a track, that's all you need"

Kjaerhus Audio Classic Series is a collection of free VST audio plugins made by Kjaerhus Audio.

The Audio Classic Serie is a bundle of Kjaerhus 9 Classic Serie mixing and mastering audio plugins. Including the classic auto-filter, chorus, compressor, delay, EQ, flanger, limiter, phaser and reverb. The classic serie goal is to emulate the warm and rich sound of vintage high end analog gear from the 70’s and 80’s eras. Kjaerhus unique “Warmth & Saturation” algorithms will give your sound a sweet and lively analog color. And it’s totally free ! Including: Chorus, Compressor, Limiter, Delay, EQ, Phaser, Flanger, Reverb, Auto-Filter

We can all only speak from within what we know and our own personal experiences.
Something sounds good to you or it does not.
A mix and master for an EDM track or a metal track will never work for an all acoustically recorded jazz track or a string quartet, orchestra, BigBand and instrumentation that requires clarity and evenness in all registers with nothing taking predominance.
I have seen a drummer get pulled off an engineer who made his acoustic jazz kick sound like death metal.
I have found that a very large proportion of engineers are great at specific styles of music and subsequent mastering because they have an understanding not only of the technical aspects, but more importantly, what the music needs to shine, what will make it work and what will kill it. Specialisation in engineering is no less important by having an understanding of not only the spectrum, but also, the music.

The reason I know this is right was by observing a great mastering engineer take on music he had never mastered before. He made a few enquiries as to the ensemble size and got copies of every great release in that style he could get his hands on, matching that ensemble. When the client walked in, he had a solid idea of how the final master should sound.

I've regretted a couple of Acustica buys and I used to buy some of them off of first impression or hype.

I still think they make phenomenal sounding plugins but I make sure to test them thoroughly and on different styles/materials before I make a decision, if I'm gonna actually use it or will it just end up being one more eye candy GUI in my collection.

And I almost always get them exclusively at Black Friday + using my coupon codes.

El Rey lives on almost every mixbus since I've bought it. Gold EQ 4 too.
