New bass players that knock you out and bass players with new skills

Discussion in 'Bass Guitars' started by BaSsDuDe, Mar 25, 2018.

  1. It just has to do with playing the bass. Chicks with sticks (drummers) don't phase me, guitarists or keyboards the same.

I think you can definately "be wrong" if you mirror your parents, being unconscious of one's motivations and continue on the road to emotional Armageddon, or "be right" and pick and choose their best qualities. Lots of stuff is a choice if you give it a shot. Eye color is a different story as are inborn talents and potential weaknesses, but base behavior can be self modified.

That is an interesting perspective. I agree that the key is an awareness and consciousness . In saying that too, a person raised with morality, integrity and free from bigotry no matter the period born in, I think is also more likely to accept changes without prejudice and have motivations that are founded in compassion and empathy, regardless of whether they follow their parents exactly or not.

We have gone off topic. Good discussion though :)

He's not new, but he's got a really beautiful and musical way of playing, very delicate touch... Breathing ...

    That's fine.
It's hard not to get excited about something great.

There are so many great bassists out there it's difficult to choose.

I try to stay away from the "Who is the best..." threads, because I do not believe that word exists anymore because the standard is so high now.

In the 1980's the two best bassists were definable because they were Stanley Clarke and Jaco Pastorius.
Jaco is dead which makes Stanley Clarke a living legend. Victor Wooten and so many others now play what those two created and invented, it's impossible to say what is better.
Giant Steps Patituchi played on his own CD 20 years ago so what the Dirty Loops guy is doing is great but Patituchi was doing it better 2 decades ago. Better? In terms of more authentic jazz lines yes, in terms of technique, both about the same.

So there is not any "They are overall the best".
I figure they all have something to offer. On Double Bass and Electric bass there are four monsters who play both amazingly - McBride, Kennedy, Patituchi and Clarke. The thing is the first to do it was Stanley.
    :)
