    Greetings all!
This is a new area to me and I was hoping to get some sage advice from you that know something about this technique.
What I want to do is generate exact frequency tones, different for each channel, to experiment with binaural effects. Let's say I want to do 110 Hz left and 118 Hz right to get the brain to an 8 Hz rhythm. Any recommendations for a tone generator to do this? I've read some stuff about MDA but not sure if it's what I need.
    All help greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    orgcha

http://www.meldaproduction.com/plugins/product.php?id=MOscillator < this might be able to do it (free). I've got an older version but the UI has gotten quite complex in the new version.

Most DAWs have built in tone generators you might want to see if yours does.

Most wave editors also have tone generators. There are even dedicated VSTs. Or you can just use any synth, load two sine oscillators, counter hard-pan them and detune one osc (cents).

Don't fall for the binaural beats hoax. ;)

Oh yes, last century they said BINAURAL, yesterday we said STEREO and today they say BINAURAL again. Them guys retro? :dunno:

Try the free, sweet & tiny, audiosexy and fantastic Wavosaur! www.wavosaur.com.

Use File->New, Tools->Synthesis->Simple, enter waveform and freq in Hz.
Play around with Process->Convert to mono, ->Convert to stereo; Edit->Other Paste->Paste and Mix etc. if you want a Stereo File with different frequencies left and right.

If you need more, just use some VST plugin. Yes, Wavosaur supports VST too

Edit: Sorry, seems like Audacity (open source, see Sourceforge) is a better (i.e. easier) choice for what you want.
Make sure you create two mono tracks with different frequencies, pan one hard left, the other hard right, mark both and then export wo a wave file. Audacity will automatically save as stereo as soon as you pan the clips differently.
