Like the topic says but here is the deal.

I want a program like the "Riff Machine" inside of FL Studio. Basically it'll generate random [or along certain parameters] music, whether it just be an arp or melody etc. So basically I'm looking for a program that can take say a 4 whole note pattern and write a random [semi-random] tune. Nothing long or complicated just something for a starting point. So I can then go through 10-20 different variations and then edit one to liking.

Now I have no idea if there even is a program like this. I've looked for melody/midi generators and all of them are just crap that I've found [usually freeware or brothersoft crap]. So if anyone knows of a program or has any alternative idea's for this I'm open to all. I'd even be down if someone knows how to use "Riff Machine" in a way I can't figure out.

    Any help is greatly appreciated!

7 Aliens Catanya. This program does that exactly, pretty much. just make like 2 bars, route it. Then Catanya just generates a bunch of different patterns.
Open the link and read about it. Its really GOOD

Sweet, thanks guys. Hopefully I can save out the midi and it's not like some arp generators and just plays the altered instead of being able to save the midi for it out.

I'll test out Catanya tonight and check out Thesys if I can find a copy of it.

FLStudio is not able to record midi output of a vst(i), so: No, you can't.
Gol (the coder) means, this feature isn't necessary, And what he says is law.

    I switched the daw.

You may try also Kirnu from Arto.

You could always send it out a physical midi port and back in ;D

I would use energyXT version 1.3 or 1.4 plus some of the many free addons for this task.
There are plenty of freeware addons for it: Note randomizers, scale "quantizers", and other midi processors that make it almost trivial to build anything you like. Plus, you can use it as a VST/VSTi in any DAW, even FL Studio.
If FL Studio won't re-route a plugin's midi out, just load the destination VSTi in energyXT.

midiplugins.com and asseca.com are great points to start.
