Hello, Guys i need feedback on my mix. This is my first ever mix for a client. So the situation is kind of competitive here. Me and another guy who does production and mixing to earn have been held in a mix comparison. So if the client likes my mix of this demo song, then i could get a contract for mixing whole album of his which comprises of 7 records. This record is aimed for bollyood listeners and it's kinda like pop music. So i upload 2 mixed .mp3 320kbps files. Can you guys tell me which one you prefer ?? One mix is mine (70percent mixed and a gulfoss and limiter on master for loudness) and the other mix is from the 2nd guy that i mentioned. If you want to see my vocal chain i can post it here for some improvement. Thanks in advance if you do end up commenting on this thread. Loudness of both tracks might be different.

    A.

    B.

Edit: So i did remixed from the start and came up with this version. Its also mastered and "LOUD" around -11 LUFS because it was as requested.
    C.

I know i am not the an mixing engineer nor expert, but i am learning.
So this is my vocal chain.

MAAG Eq2 is boosting around 2db 20k region for air, Pro-DS for de-essing(Self explanatory).
Patcher is Sidechained Valhallaroom reverb and last echoboy for 30ips slap delay.

Any Help or Feedback appreciated for improvement. And very thanks this awesome community.

B is mine. I have mixed it overnight. So my judgements are cloudy.

  5. Sorry, A is rounder and fuller. It breathes better. Yours is too tight. It sounds like you've spent too much time overthinking the process.

In A the vocs sit better in the mix, in B the playback is too weak and too reverby.

    A. in my opinion seems to flow a little better, and doesn't smack you in the face with loudness like B. does, don't overprocess your mix, too many plugs can hurt any mix, use a good loudness meter and adjust accordingly.......good luck!

The main lead vocal is so thin (in my opinion). I don't know what should i do ??

  10. The lead vocal doesn't sound thin in mix A. If it is thin and has been treated it may need a saturation plugin applied and a slight boost with a wide Q around 500hz. But if the vocal sounds okay untouched do NOT do this.

First of all B, is bad squashed and generally badly mixed, i can even hear the compressor work, which is "bad" in this situation, vocal is muddy, and i'm generous for not going all out on the vocals on B.

Now to A, while a is more balanced to my ears, it is still lacks something, drums are weak (in both a and b) Vocals is way too dynamic for my taste, it is still possible to fix, in the mix, but as you guys know me, i have to do something about...

Other than that, good luck on your work, wish you best of luck.

Even if I like what you've done, I'm afraid you used version A for this and this is not OP's version, but it's a good impression of how it should sound.

Yeah, I like A more aswell. For me this version feels a bit more crispier, warmer, sharper and powerful. I can hear it very well on the drums. They punch more throughout the mix, but it's only a bit too mono for me. Your version is wider which I like, but a bit weak compared to version a yet. Although, I don't think it's a fair comparision anyway, because they are not on the same loudness for me and version a is probably analog aswell.

Thanks for taking your precious time and do a master on A. But A is already mastered and B (mine) was not.
Also the client wanted Drums to be quieter in mix. All he said to me is that most of his listeners listen songs on mobile phones. So, It should cut through phone speakers and the words of song should be more audible.

Typical client arguments, which is totally invalid, but for now let's work on your mix, post your vocal chain please. (Screenshots if possible)

Don't use compression to get loudness. Start with a low volume level and raise the volume of each element until you can hear things clearly. EQ problem areas to fit better.

I have attached thumbnails of vocal chain already on thread. You should take look upside.

  19. Vocal is vastly improved. But your kick has lost its presence.

I know right, but the client says kick is more dominating.

I made a small suggestion (since google drive seems to be working again, I'll give it a shot)
