Sampling someone’s music from a recording or midi etc, is against the law, period and should only ever be done privately or with a view to contact the copyright owners because you’ve made a great track, it’s happened before and it will happen again but you will probably need professional help to get it cleared and there could be several copyrights to negotiate.

So not worth the trouble unless it’s all you’ve got and it’s definitely a hit, which is more than possible because it’s been done before, mostly by beginners, so don’t fret, it’s easily possible a novice, you maybe, could write a hit, from an already proven hit, but near impossible to get it cleared.

The only samples you should ever use in your tracks are Royalty Free ones, period.

However, some unscrupulous sample vendors who state Royalty Free have hidden terms in the small print which often states you need to contact them if you get a certain number of streams etc and will then have to split the royalties with them, this is not acceptable, especially when you’ve paid for a pack. One or the other, but they want to have their cake, and they want to eat it too.

ADSR and Cymatics and many others have these kinds of terms, seems to be the norm these days with most of the newer smaller sample labels, it’s a very sneaky thing to do, but sometimes, unusually, occasionally, not with every pack, so tread carefully or avoid. I avoid ‘em.

Basically, if it’s difficult to find the term ‘Royalty Free’ which it often is on so many, many, sites, don’t use that company, period.

I’ve been using Loopmasters for well over a decade as they have nearly all the major suppliers on their site, plus their own packs a very useable. They also have regular sales and bargain bundles.

My solid trusted Royalty Free suppliers would be, Loopmasters - Producer Loops – Singomakers - Black Octopus - Soul Rush – Samplephonics - Sample Tools cr2 - Smokey Loops - Vocal Roads - HY2ROGEN - ZTEKNO - Earth Moments - Freaky Loops - Organic Loops.

There’s plenty of other safe reliable suppliers not named here but you will find them on Loopmasters or Producer Loops as they too sell sample packs other than their own.

I must add I’ve noticed recently that, Loopmasters and Producer Loops mention not all packs are completely Royalty Free and to read the packs blurb, easy enough, this isn’t or won’t be a problem though as no doubt it will be clearly marked as such, and could be just a kinda legal safety clause to protect themselves, I’m guessing, and I haven’t come across any packs that are not 100% Royalty free to date and wouldn’t use them anyway.

In summary, you’re completely safe with Loopmasters or Producer Loops own packs and the other packs for sale on their sites, they are all clearly marked Royalty Free, although, rarely, some may have other conditions attached but I assume they will be clearly marked as such and I’ve yet to come across any packs that aren’t Royalty Free.
