Native Instruments Massive X 1.7: better parameter automation and improvements - March 3, 2026

Native Instruments has released Massive X 1.7, now with all parameters exposed to host automation, plus improvements to the morpher and more.

Update 1.6, released last summer, revived the development of Native Instruments’ Massive X synthesizers after a long period of inactivity. They also promised that this was just the beginning of further updates.

Then came the preliminary insolvency proceedings; however, business will continue as usual, according to NI’s CEO, Nick Williams. This appears to be the case because Native Instruments has released the Massive X 1.7 update on Native Access.

    Update 1.7
Massive X 1.7 is a free update for existing users with several new features, improvements, and bug fixes.

It sounds strange, but it’s true: until now, it wasn’t possible to automate all parameters in Massive X within a DAW. The engine was limited to 16 macros, but this is changing now.

With the new update 1.7, all Massive X parameters are now exposed to host automation. Then there is a new menu option to invert the X- and Y-morpher pad values to align with hardware controls. This morpher was introduced in July 2025 with update 1.6

Additionally, there is a new animator lock function in the morpher, allowing you to lock specific animator settings when switching presets. That’s a very practical feature. Plus, you can now hide the cursor on macOS except in Apple hosts.

Another new addition is an update notification right in the plugin with an option to enable and disable it. Alongside this, they removed the internal automation of the mod-wheel, pitch-wheel, pitch-bend, and aftertouch.

It also includes various improvements (e.g., smoother animations by enabling Vsync) and bug fixes. In all these weeks of bad news, it’s a bright spot that activity continues, including the development of new and existing products like Massive X.

Native Instruments Massive X 1.7 is now available as a free update for existing users via Native Access.
