    Hello,

I just wanted to share with you my recent project.

It's a song from Linkin Park, I sang the Vocals and arranged the rest of the instruments through MIDI.

    Hope you like it.

Good. I think you've got something here. Try another vocal take but, this time, concentrate on the performance. Hold back on going big with the voice until 1' 20". Your softer voice is lovely and you really don't need to push it so hard right from the start - it leaves you with nowhere to go for the finish. Hold it back then build up, build up a little more, hit the climax then drop into the soft, emotional ending. You'll have them in tears. Guaranteed.

There's something else that you can do in the mix. Permit the balance of the instruments to portray you as either a piano player/songwriter/singer, or a guitarist/songwriter/singer. Fool around with it a little at the start of the song. Decide if the piano is dominant over the guitar or vice-versa.

@DarthFader thanks for you words, man. I'll give it a try. I'm still learning how to sing and how to mix, so this is all about accomplishing milestones. With every song I have to set the bar a little bit higher for both things, eventually they will get good enough.

I will get back to the drawing board with your advice about the singing, it is definitely true, it's too much too early. Those little things make the difference.

About the mixing, let me see if I got you right, it seems like both instruments are fighting each other for dominance?

    Thanks again!

That's almost right, yes, but not so much in terms of fighting each other for loudness but for a sense of spatial depth. Ask me more about that, if you like. Alternatively, have a little tweak of your reverbs and see if that brings the piano or guitar into sharper focus.

@DarthFader yeah, got a very good point there. That nylon guitar is giving me nightmares while mixing, it's like too much body... too bassy. In part that's because it's not strummed using a pick.

I'll keep on tweaking, thanks man!

try autotune on the lead vocal. Seriously, not as an effect per say but rather as a correction tool. Be extremely subtle. Also that guitar is way to boomy and boxy, cut the low end out up to 120hz then make a steep bell cut from around 300 to about 700hz. Id cut as much as 6-8db. And the vocals could use a subtle delay.
