Well...I have this problem since some times and I can't still figure out how to solve it. I think it's hardware related because it happens even after formatted my pc. I have replaced cpu, motherboard, ram and psu...but nothing has changed, pc still reboots by itself. The weird thing is this thing don't always happens, there are some periods where my pc seems solid like a rock and some periods where it reboots continuously.

I don't know what to do, do you have some ideas?

That leaves Bad harddrive(s), Wiring, Faulty software… and spooks.

Grimlens aside ... a short can cause a machine to reboot ... but that assumes that once the power was cut, it also was restored. Hence, computer off, computer on.

I have also seen a CPU over heat ... shut down the computer and then reboot. It may be worth it to check your cpu temp.

It could also be you OS or a virus. You will have to a lot of trouble shooting and eliminate various possibilities to run down this issue.

I had this problem a while ago with my PC. The problem was my coolermaster PSU needed cleaning out after only a year! (my previous, supposedly crappier thermalmaster PSU lasted fine for 2-3 years w/o a dust clean). Your problem may be different, ofc.

EDIT: Could also be a bad mobo

    Temperature?
If your gpu is over heating your pc will reset. I assume its a pc so grab a copy of GPU Z and make sure your gpu is dust free and the thermal paste hasn't burnt off.

    Hey, maybe try this:

Click the start button, type in "view event logs" in the search box, and click "View Event Logs in Control Panel".

Click on the Windows Logs - and Click System. Scroll through looking for the date/time it shut down, there should be entries as to why it shut down. If there aren't any entries - Windows didn't shut the computer down.

When windows doesn't shut down properly - it would have asked you if you want to enter safe mode and/or do a Windows recovery. If this is happening, you more than likely have a bad PSU (although it could be other components).

If you find a result that says something like: "The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first. This error could be caused if the system stopped responding, crashed, or lost power unexpectedly"; it probably means that you need to replace the power supply.

    Good luck!

    Hi,
    I need following info:

    PC reboot happens:
    1) before OS loading (BIOS/UEFI check process)?
    2) before you log-in?
    3) after log-in?
    4) using app who needs alot of power? (3D Game / CAD / DAW + heavy cpu's vst)?
    5) is the BSOD shown before reboot?
    6) video card works good (no PSOD=pink screen of death, sort of BSOD)?
    7) is HDD slow (use HDDTune to evaluate it)?

Meanwhile you could test RAM's bank using "Memtest86++"

@widgetmaster: My pc is linked to a ups, so even if a short occur it should be safe. Temperatures are ok...:dunno:

@duskwings: I have reinstalled everything from scratch!

@junh1024: Psu and mobo are relatively new (4-5 months), it should be ok! :dunno:

Maybe I need to check how much dust is inside my pc

    1. After OS loading
    2-3. After logged-in
    4. No, most of the time happens when I'm doing nothing
    5. Absolutely no
    6. Yes works good and temperature is around 38°C
    7. I don't think...:dunno:

Ram is new, I have replaced it because I was thinking the problem could be there but I was wrong...:dunno:

Hmmm... it seems an OS failure via "driver conflict". Check event log carefully.

    1) To exclude the PSU use "Furmark", it stress the video card and drain alot of power.
    2) New or not the RAM could be the origin of PC reboot (ie wrong timing).
    3) Set the OS to show BSOD before reboot (WinOS need a BSOD crash to reboot)

    Hope it helps.

    P.S.
I hope your PC is not overclocked...

I think you should Clear your Motherboard CMOS

    Tips:
Turn off PSU.(if it contains a switch, still plug out the cord)
Press the power button while the PSU is turned off.
    Set CMOS Jumpers to Clear
    Take out the CMOS battery
Wait a good 20-30 minutes(or 5 min if your feeling Lucky)

    Extra Tip:
Make sure everything is fully connected and inserted properly, even the CPU(Might want to check for damage Pins)

it really sounds like PSU overload, or overheating.

    try to look up your hardware with HWMonitor;
after that, disconnect everything you don't use 100% of the time (usb dongles, keyboards etc) and see if your PC still reboots

well it depends on how powerful your PSU is, and consequentially how many devices it can feed - CPU and GPU take the most, but if you throw lots of external devices or hard drives, PSU may simply be unable to feed all of them, and so it overloads, causing computer to reboot. it's actually quite typical problem

PSU is 600W and I don't have any external devices except 2 hdd, but they have both external feeding...:dunno:
