except for the obvious files, I play everything in real time to a click with as little editing as possible. I really do try to "keep it real" and humanize this machinery as much as possible, but that's just how I prefer to work. Kramer perc/cymbal.-room and Adobe reverb on congas,- Maserati(Waves? forgot.) on lead vocs,-Audition reverb on 3 part back vocs, each part sung twice for six tracks-3 left and 3 right. Mixed as much left, right, center as possible, except stereo Yamaha SY-22 synth and drum overheads. Drums mics: Rode NT2-A (figure 8 pattern, 10db pad, 80hz roll off) and Sennheiser E835 set up as mid/side technique on overheads, E835 on snare, Sure SM57s on toms and bass drum. I think all percussion was recorded with the 835s, too, except the banging pipe sound, which is the synth. Used the Rode for vocs, cardioid pattern, 5db pad, 40hz roll off in a little closet I have covered with Sonex tiles, blankets. I run an extra video monitor and mouse in there to run software and computer. My cat likes in there when I'm not singing. Tascam-US800 interface. After I mixed it I ran it back through JJP Puigtec (a Pultec modeled compressor. Used to use real ones in the studio in the old days) with just a very small amount of squeeze, more for the way it changed the tone than the compression.
