My first go using video with my music. Is it any good? Do I suck at both and should just quit now??

Got a subscription for Premiere Pro several months back and I’ve been messing with it trying to get a basic knowledge in that time. Finally got somewhat of a working knowledge and slapped a little something together to maybe use on my music socials. It’s short and I’m aware it’s a bit corny but wanted to make it user-friendly and digestible for everyone. The music is a track I’m currently working on.

As always I’ll preface with I am a one guy show. I write, track, produce, mix, etc.. all of the music myself and it’s taken a while to get at least (imo) a somewhat decent grasp on the mixing/recording as a whole, side of everything. While also being an adult with a big boy dayjob and family. Not that “just writing good songs” has ever been enough to have any actual success in music but that has definitely become way less true in the last several years. At least if you don’t have label support or a whole team behind you. Now you need to be an engineer, a videographer, an editor, and so many other things. And this is me just trying to maybe keep up.. forgive the rant

just looking for feedback on production quality and general first impressions. And maybe just to know that at least someone is seeing the fruits of all of my hours spent learning the technical sides of this stuff. End of the day if the rest of the world never sees or hears any of it it’s nice to know at least this community will take a minute to listen and give some feedback and I won’t have to say I’m the only one who’s ever seen or heard any of my music lol Thx Fam!

Damn. Don’t know why I went all “Eeyore” from “Winnie the Pooh” there haha…

    Fuck it.. enjoy!

Enjoy it I did! I think I already follow you on Soundcloud. I love the simplicity of this. You packed more info into two minutes than many accomplished youtubers do in 30 minutes. I love your voice, your guitar, bass and work with those hitting sticks. Now I'll go all Eeyore and say "...well, shucks... I'm a fan"

Hi @tylerv, I think you are doing quite well and you are taking your own life into your own hands. Luck is usually with the hardworking and your positive advancement is the result of your own actions. Congratulations from me for your decisions to live your life as you can, Self-sufficient, self-determined and free. You are a doer and the original.

You can of course still make a demo promo CD, with a nice booklet and distribute the free of charge, preferably web addresses, website, e-mail, etc. write on the back. Can one hear a whole piece from you, have you already finished something?

Well, looks good, sounds good. I think there's a limiter acting up a little but i actually like it.

The intro feels a little too slow, but the audio flows nicely into the next part. So i think it's the right lenght, just needs a bit more movement, a second camera angle if possible, maybe a close-up on the guitar or amp, a very subtle zoom-in effect, stuff like that, just something that keeps things relaxed until the main part hits but at the same time isn't completely static.

That said, it's a nice little showcase and the music is very nice too. Is there a full version for the song?

    You don't suck.
But even if you did, you shouldn't let that stop you.
That feeling you get when you make a good song is enough imo. You've already succeeded.

My only critique is you called yourself and your work corny. Don't do that. Let other people have the opinions of your work once you put it out there. And the ones who do call your work corny you can safely ignore. They're your haters and you actually need them, but you don't have to pay attention to them. Only the people who share positive energy with you deserve your attention.

Lots of people share their music on here. You're the first one I went and followed. You don't suck. Keep chasing that feeling.

Wow.. i’m still at work so I can’t respond individually yet but I just checked this and I have to at least say a blanket thank you to you guys who have responded already. Sometimes when we do something that we put so much effort into knowing that the chances are so slim of anything ever coming from it or anyone ever hearing it it’s easy to get discouraged and I’ve definitely been feeling that recently. So Big thanks for everyone’s encouragement

Hey, opinions being like assholes I'll toss mine out there: recording great, video, fine, playing and singing fine, all of it is generally better than what I tend to see on forums like this so heck yeah, don't stop. I like the tune but I don't love it- but that's 1000% just personal taste.

I loved it. The song was as good or better than songs that have been hits. Very catchy. Your voice is totally professional. The recording and arranging sound totally professional to me, though I'm no expert in mixing and mastering. And the video was great, especially for someone who's new to it. Sure, you could spice the video up, but it works as is - lighting is good, captions are good, angles are good, etc. I just want to hear the whole song.

thanks for the honesty! I'll be finishing up the song fully in the next few days and i'll post it here for you to take a listen through to, and anyone else that's interested in hearing the full piece. maybe it'll hit alittle harder as a song (as it was intended) rather than as a subject to demonstrate a point in a short video... it may still just be fine though.

then i'll just have to make sure the next one's just undeniably better so that you HAVE to give it at least "good". or maybe "fine+" at the very least :hifive:

Reading that back it sounds really unenthusiastic which isn't how I meant it all, I think what you're doing is excellent!

    Many positives!

The music itself is very generic sounding, and hopefully you can develop that more and stand out from the crowd.

    But yeah, well done!
