Inspired the the ambient thing going on around here, this is my first attempt at making an ambient style of track, and one of the few songs I've actually "completed" enough to share. I don't actually listen to ambient so I don't know if it fits the genre. Don't be too hard on me, I am mixing my music on cheap headphones after all :)

not bad audiowolf, definately not ambient, but not a terrible sound either.

Good ambient has a slow pace, nice swaying atmosphere, and barely no drums at all and if there is any it would be in the background or very minimal OR would at least settle in a little later.

But all in all not a bad effort ; )

Ambient is one of those genre-defying genres:excl:. There's no right or wrong in Ambient. Where other genres are more tightly defined, like it must have this kind of drumming, at this bpm or that kind of guitar or those kinds of squelches to qualify as this or that genre, Ambient is very wide. Having said that, there is univeral agreement about how we listen to Ambient and how we do not and this is very important. When creating music we must always imagine what our listener will be doing and how they will be listening. We don't for instance, expect Ambient to help our listener dance or jump around to a beat, even though beats do exist in Ambient, they are there for different purposes; in Ambient a beat usually helps the music to 'journey somewhere'. It's generally agreed that Ambient is 'used' as a tool for relaxing, or enjoyed by 'shoe-gazers' so-called because their heads nod down towards their shoes as they concentrate deeply on the Ambient music. Ambient can also be great for creating background 'ambience' or mood. The Indian vocals would limit it to an Indian audience and turn everyone else off. In short, I don't think your piece is Ambient, but that's just my opinion.

I listened to a few examples of ambient and heard it's that kind of long pad-filled relaxing stuff, but I was confused because I looked at an mp3 example of ambient on the "Dance Music Manual" website and it had upbeat drums and said it should have a swingy hi hats drums with sharp transients :dunno: But yeah I admit it does seem to be not as relaxing as I originally intended it to be.

As for the indian vocals I used them because I don't have many vocal samples  maybe they're better left out anyway.

electronic music in general is something I never listened to much so it's difficult for me to "feel" when it's right more so than rock music. I'm definitely gaining appreciation for the work involved in producing full tracks though.
