Wow this means a lot. I will def. take in what you said. "You cannot fix what you cannot hear" is great advice to push me to invest in best headphones/monitors. And I do also hope my music can mature with my own maturity. Only time will tell!

 

It's ready for radio, and there's lots of interesting things going on in the tracks. To be honest some of those vocal effects are a bit dated now but they've travelled well. Beware that people who know good voices from bad ones know that bad voices hide behind lots of vocal fx. I know that sounds controversial and I argued against that for a while but came around to it being a truth that could go against you. Probably it's producers noticing that the voice isn't that great on a track and creating a diversion with fx. A great analogy is a not-very-pretty girl who wears excessively huge earings and necklaces - they're there as a distraction to make you look at those things and not the face or the eyes or the big nose. Well you get the idea. The comments about the sameness of the songs are correct. Record companies want to hear performers who can entertain an audience fo an hour or more. They want to hear a range of songs. Demos, if you use this as a demo are all about demonstrating your range of abilities. These songs demonstrate little range. I would add something else: your work is Rap that is being sung. As one who loves music I have never being able to stomach Rap, sorry a cliche maybe but it's not music. You however, have maybe tried to make it music, and the lyrics are blantantly high in the mix to have the same effect as in Rap as is the content of the lyrics, it's all sung Rap. Think carefully about radio. This is not my genre at all but maybe an outsider's comments could be helpful to you. The quality of production is excellent, your voice is great if a bit heard-it-a-millions-times on the radio, but if that's where you want to be then you're ready. Be aware that the genre is very limited not mass appeal. I would rather hear a Lenny Kravitz or Prince style attempt at being original yet remaining appealing to the masses rather than a small niche. I praise you for your hard work!

 

I did play around with some vocal effects on this one. I wanted to make a 'unique' sound. I don't have the best voice ever but I wasn't smothering it in effects out of lack of talent. But I do understand your point. I think the 'limited range' comment is...idk how to take that. I'm trying to be open minded but at the same time I don't know how a 6 track EP can demonstrate a large amount of range. I thought I did at least with the production. And I also want to challenge your 'sung rap' comment. I view 'sung rap' as Young Thug or Rich Homie Quan. And there's nothing wrong with that but that's definitely not my lane. Again not pretending to be the best singer but I am a singer. Some songs are "rappy" but still more vocal strength then the melodic rappers of today. And "I Need a Sign" and even "One in the Same" are just singing. More in the vein of Blackbear or Mike Posner. I could work on my range no doubt and I appreciate the insight you gave which is why I let it sink in for a day before replying. You made me think about a lot of things though @Thankful and that's always good!

You have a lot of advice here to help guide you, so I just would like to say your hard work and creativity are showcased very nicely. I understand the market you are shooting for and this should do well there. When in doubt use reference tracks when mixing and mastering.

Very Good Cohesive work. It is a very Brightly mixed/mastered album especially the vocals... its peircing that 12 - 20 k range I suspect was boosted in the mastering stage heavily with on EQ. This makes its hard to listened to the entire EP without getting ear fatigue I had to stop 3 songs in and breifly play the other because my ears were already hurting. So 2 solutions, Less Bosting in the high end Or better Balance of the overall mixes but I supect its more to do with over boosting the high end.
