I have never covered another artist's song as a recording before, although I have posted my songs on soundcloud here a few times. But I kept hearing these "country artists" mucking up rock songs, and I thought I could do at least as well. Right now it's just me on brush drums, bass, vocals, melodica, and my friend John Call of Pure Prarie League came over and added some steel guitar. I am probably going to get a couple friends to add an acoustic guitar and piano, and a couple backing vocals, but this is the gist of what I have in mind. I truly hope to show respect for Pete Townsend's song and country music style. This is not intended to be a parody. But if it makes Pete mad, I could probably use the free publicity.

Huh, figured I would at least get some kind of reaction to how I mistreated The Who's song.

 

Hey Algae, I did check it out yesterday, but this style is pretty different from most stuff I listen to so I figured my comment wouldn't be of much interest.
But if you want I can share a few thoughts of dubious value.

Unfortunately the vocal doesn't work for me. I think on such a down to earth track with this type of lyric the voice has to carry a lot and convey a certain passion. I didn't get that feeling.
Of course you're not making it easy on yourself here since there's Daltrey to compete with.

Musically I think the sound is fine. I like both the brushes and the steel guitar.
It would probly be good if you added some more elements, like the piano and ac guitar you mention.
I can def see that bringing some more emotion and dynamics into the track. Again, that's what I really miss compared to the original.
