Watched the tutorial, If it was that difficult to separate the vocal from the guitar part, could you imagine how difficult it would be to remove the vocal from a full complicated arrangement with Bass, Drums, Keyboards, Horns, and more.

Maybe it is possible, but It might be easier to find another singer to supply what is needed.

It would be very frustrating when Melodyne crashes so often.

I have added harmony parts with Melodyne. Unlike the video, I preferred to leave the vibrato in, It sounded unique to have three part harmony with the exact same vocal fluctuations.

Another tip is to change the formant to make it sound like different singers but all of the singers still have the same vocal fluctuations. Extra cool harmonies!

I like the multitracks, Use them if you want. I've checked out a few, probably done checking out new ones though.

I did the exact same thing when a client sent me the video link. I was arguing with him about demixing and how it will sound like crap. Still he wanted to use this for professional remixing and my disagreement had some weight, as the resulting acapella sounds very flangy/phasy.

    Heh, trade secret?

I briefly skimmed some of the comments stating that Melodyne has the amazing ability to extract clean artifact free vocals from a mix. You people are douchebags & audio scum of the earth. Please stop spreading lies.

BTW: If you're a fan of the Occupy Wall Street gang, GO F@CK YOURSELF!!!

Please stop being so rude, calm down! No one in the thread claims that Melodyne extracts clean vocals from mixes.

and you sound frigging edgy...adjust your medication man! .... even if you disagree there no need for that, people wont give you any credit for it!

besides these tracks are cool if you want to do remixes..that's exactly what you need.

Eh? Um . . are you saying what I think you're saying? That the leak of the stem mixes can't be considered new because the original album was released in 1979?? You do see that you're completely missing something obvious here right?

Okay, now I know you're pulling my leg :] Stop spreading confusion funny guy . . . good impersonation of someone very confused though :]

You can hear how the track was mixed in great detail . . that's simply not possible by analysing the stereo mix by itself. Superstition is pretty stripped back but there's plenty of modern layered recordings where you simply won't hear all the elements in the stereo mix, usually by design . . . if you know about mixing in levels you'll basically never hear level 4 properly in a stereo mix even though this is where a lot of mixing engineers make their unique sonic imprint.

In a use case I had a client recently who wanted his distorted bass to sound like Muse recordings. From listening to the stereo mixes he was sure the Muse bass distortion was full frequency with a lot of sub and flabby bass despite my assurances that the impression he was getting was a psychoacoustic effect and that the bass distortion was actually very present in the mid range and dovetailed nicely with the drums and guitar to produce the impression of what he was hearing.

He didn't trust me at all but I was able to use the stem mixes of a Muse recording to show him how the bass sounded in isolation . . . that cleared up things pretty quickly and he has since opened his mind and become interested in psychoacoustics . . .

    That's my story anyway :)

Wow, great link, thanks for that

For mixing practice only real multitracks are of use, not the stems.
Real multitracks contain the pure recorded tracks, without any processing or effects.
Whereas stems usually include all processing which has been done, so that theoretically, if you put all stems together, it should sound like the original song (it won't, because the stage of mastering is missing).
That being said, stems are also pretty useful for learning, just by listening to them seperately.

You can learn from ANY style, not just by listening to the preferred ones.

Just a note; AudioZ no longer puts multitrack downloads on the main page.

They won't bother the mainstream users as much now.

    Thanks Saint
