It's not much about the talent of the performer. It's a popularity contest. It's more about their outside life being followed than what they do on stage. That's why Britney Spears still as a place in this shit. It's one big reality tv show. But it's not only this way in America. This scheme started a long time ago. Someone who wants to become famous as a lead vocalist will have far better chances if: they mangle themselves with tattoos, have a fucked up dress code, fucked up haircut, act strange deliberately, spark confusion as to whether they are straight or gay, and never give a clear answer to questions about any of the shit.

I don't think MTV has aired any music Videos on their Main channel in about 15+ years. Rather funny they still have this show called the "Video Music Awards". Where's the videos? Shouldn't it be called the "Youtube Video Awards" and hosted by Youtube on Youtube?

 

Corporate music still sucks. Hasnt been about the music for many years. Its just a blatant attempt at selling youth culture to the youth.

Today its all about appearance and very little if any substance at all.

 

Come on, mtv has been rotting "music" since the mid 80's, 90's (can't remember when this crap was born, who cares). Commercialism doesnt play well with music or any art.

well, what can be said about hip hop is that it is innovating at a slower pace at this moment.

 

I'm not talking about rap, anyone can rap, it doesn't mean they do hip hop. I'm talking about hip hop and what it was when it was still there. It wasn't just music (specially not one music), it was a cultural movement, just like punk wasn't just music before it died in its puke.
