Outputs on your ms20 to the inputs on your audio interface. Select correct input channels in Cubase, arm track and record.

Also read cubase and ms20 manual while you are at it.

Haven't used a Steinberg's daw for ages. What Cubase do you have?
Anyhow, you should go to your VST Connections - External Instrument - create a new "instr. bus" (dunno why they decided to call it that way.. anyways).
Click in the Device Port column for the Return Bus “Left” and “Right” ports and select the inputs on your audio hardware to which you connected the external instrument. Here you are assigning the appropriate AUDIO DEVICE and DEVICE PORTS to accommodate your particular setup. Hope that helps.. Get back to me if you get stuck.

On a side note, I went Ableton for that particular reason. :) Create a MIDI track, drag onto it External Instr. plugin, show the plugin HW synth, and off you go. Brilliant.

Oh btw, congrats on your purchase. That's a lovely synth. *yes*

many thanks for the replies, really appreciate it, yes it is a lovely synth and i have had a play around with it but only using the headphones plugged into it, i can't wait to get it running through my speakers and cubase, as i said this is my first hardware synth so i realise there is going to be a learning curve with setting them up, i'm using cubase 6.5 with a RME hdsp aio soundcard. :)

what inputs on my interface do i plug into? i'm using a breakout cable for my rme soundcard (http://www.dv247.com/computer-hardware/rme-bo9632xlrmkh--69238) and i can't figure out where i would plug it into. I have my monitor speakers plugged into the "line out" connectors, do i go from the ms-20 into the "line in" ports? many thanks and merry christmas :)

xlr, and thus you might consider getting 2 of these; http://www.dv247.com/cables/cordial-xlr-to-jack-cable-1-5m--200399

will get back to you tomorrow evening with propa explanation, etc... 'night

btw, no need to get those right now. we can find them cheaper, and on top of that should check a few things,
such as the output types (balanced/unbalanced), etc.

thanks again for the help :D i think what i need is a xlr MALE to 3.5mm jack as the output from the ms-20 is a mini jack and the input on my interface is a female port, does that sound right? hope so lol

Hey bud, just got back home. Have to do a few things and will get back to you.
Nope, it doesn't. :P You need 1/4 jack to.. Anyways, have to check a few things. Think you'll need a DI box.

In the meantime, you might consider to flick trough manual, and get your head around the connection types in general.
This place is nice to get any kind of info related to music studio.

Hey how's things? Sorry for the delay.. been hectic these days. I did a bit of research, and thanks to RME's quality (oh well, it's RME)
    you don't need an ID box to avoid the noise and such. Good stuff! Here's a few solutions for you bud;
    - Get a pair of TRS -> XLR cables - that Cordial I linked would do the job.
In case you don't mind spending a few extra bobs on cables, as myself, hit me up for a suggestion or two. :)
    - Again, if money is not a prob and you have a spare bracket, get RME AI4S/192 http://www.thomann.de/ie/rme_ai4s192_aio_expansion_board.htm
This one could be handy in case a new toy pops on your desk. In fact 2 toys. :) Obviously, here you'd need TRS cables.
    - And the 3rd solution, the most future upgrades proof one, is chaining a Multiface I or II to your card. I know, they sell for 600+ yoyos.
I am selling my Presonus and these days will pick up a 2nd hand Mf II, mint cond, for 350. The luckiest sob ever, I am.
Will eventually upgrade the I/O by getting an MF I - they are fairly cheap and easy to get hands on nowadays (eBay FTW)

    Cheers!
