Nice tune with a lot of good ideas, I liked the variation and the mix..........a bit too much of that sweeping synth sound for me, it got to be a bit repetitive maybe?

You know im always brutally honest with my reviews.
First of all, your levels are going trough the roof.
Did you bring all your track levels down for a healthy mixdown?
Do you work with buses and watch the levels with compressors?
Compression on the mixbus or a limiter?
The snare is way too loud and mid rangy.
The bass is all over the place.
Did you check the mix with your headphones?
Always remember to ask yourself when you listen to your material.Is it fatiguing?
It has to have zero fatigue in the low,mid and high range.

 

Broadly agree w/ von Steyr. I feel dirty. And not in a way that I can even charge for :D Also that fuckn bass rly gets on my tits. Almost straight away! Wrong sound in wrong octave, I think. U also need to either do some (a lot) more variation - like even "classic" funkness (ie octave stepping & semitone down, u know the drill) or move that breakdown forward by a few bars to 1:20 ish. It sounds so static and one-note, and it's spsd 2b melodic, I think? I like the percussive embellishments, I think u need a few more layered elements (ie syncopated comping) as well as giving a few more cues as to direction. Also dunno, prolly cos it's v early stage, but maybe melody & vocals next?

Thanks a lot for the honest feedback. TBH I have to admit that I have almost no clue regarding the mixing stuff, I'm doing everything "by ear" and I will have to get back on this and learn some basic stuff I guess.

Thanks for your comment. Regarding the bass, I used a Mini Moog one intentionally, maybe an electric bass would have been better, I don't know.

Less Decay on that bass when it's arping. It makes it sound very muddy and up in key a bit. Too low for that sound I feel.

 

Take your time bro.When you`ll learn the basics of EQ and compression you will get a a huge advantage and instantly get so much better.

In normal electronic tracks, you're dealing with the limited amount of sounds but If you've heard my stuffs you'd find out that they are so busy mixes. In these kinds of stuffs, normal EQ and Compression techniques do not work well. I mean the sounds are so twisted together that that you don't know which sound should be EQed unless you'd deliberately want to make some room left for the drums.

I don't personally feel that the fundimental problem with the bass, is solvable by mixing. It needs to be addressed at the synth itself.
I found it very fatiguing too. Shame you didn't leave the old track up to compare to.
