2 New tracks I made earlier. Please have a listen if you would? :dunno:

Any and all advice and tips on what I could do better would seriously make my day. *yes*
I'm kinda stuck at point with mixing/mastering.It sounds great on my setup.But...
I've been cutting bass lower than 150 hz on any string or brass parts so they don't fight with the 808.
It seems to make the 808 sit better in the mix.So yeah also I suppose any tips on mixing 808's would be swell too.

I just kind of use a punchy 909 type kick and then lay a whole separate sequence with the 808.It sounds ok but should one be louder than the other? Just curious.I have been putting Maxx bass then Ezmix 2 on the 808.(I put EZmix on everything  )

I even kinda found it was easy if I took instruments of certain frequency ranges and put those to certain fx channels. Amost like devide your instruments in 2 fx categories, high and low and then filter and eq to your hearts desire. But I'm just messin with stuff to see what happens. :dunno: I know fx pretty well, and compressors,eq's etc, just curious of things I can do in general to get a better mix?

This is still a rough draft.I wanna add a lead for the chorus. And may do more arrangement.

Any tips on mixing and mastering would be very helpful,if you could? :beg:

Please, let me know what ya think.

    Enjoy!

I like the basic sound and vibe, but I think you need more variation in the arrangement.
For instance the melody figure / slow synth arp that starts the track shouldn't play the whole time but come and go here and there. I'd also like to hear a more developed bassline kick in somewhere.

The breaks, like those at 2:12 and 2:52 are really cool, but IMO there should be more drastic changes in the music following. I expected something really different there but now it just keeps on goin the same all through the track.

I think it can be good if you work a bit more on it.
And I love the title :mates:

    Hey Levitate,

as far as I can say you're making a good job mixing. Of course, I don't know where you're aiming soundwise so I can't tell if you're there yet :)
Did you have some particular artist in mind whose sound you wanted to recreate?

As TE already mentioned, it's now time to finish the arrangement. There's one thing that distinguishes a solid, professional production from amateur stuff: something is happening all the time. Be it modulation, be it effects, be it oneshots. It's really all the small stuff that makes obvious how much effort someone put into a track.

You create a beat, a groove, a melody, a raw arrangement and a first mixdown - and then the real work starts :)

    Thanks fraifikmushi!

    Awesome advice you guys! *yes*

No I'm not trying to emulate any particular artist.Maybe a certain style or genre sometimes.Matter of fact I want to stay as far away from emulating any particular artist as possible and just kinda do my own thing.I play a certain way, really each key I play in has a different articulation/accentuation on certain scale degrees & tonics.I'm better and faster in certain keys than others. E flat,E,A,A flat,C,and D Flat are a few favorites.

I do a lot of Hip-hop & R&B,but I've done a lil bit of everything.I've been doing a lot of EDM and Dubstep stuff since I got a launchpad.I just like learning.

Thanks again for the advice.

    You guys rock! :headbang:

I don't usually listen to this type of music so I'm not the best person to judge but it sounds very pro to me. The mix is very clean, the percs are on point, nice balance on the mix. It's rather simple (as most beats are) but that's what you were going for and you keep it interesting throughout, good job ! Really don't see anything to improve
    Cheers

zero-frag thank you very much!!!

I don't think I've ever gotten so many positive comments anywhere else but here.

This place feels like home.Only place online I've ever fit in.

Contrary to popular belief I am not the popular guy.

I may be the focus of attention a lot in conversation in real life.

But I don't strive to be,it just seems like people pay attention to me so it ends up that way.I talk a lot.

And bro,I've never had anyone say my tracks sound very pro.EVER. :break: And percs on point, never heard that before. :dancing:

Dude seriously? I must really be doing something right.

I've been toying with mixing and mastering a lot and arrangement and pauses, stops, breaks, fills, rolls, transition fx etc.

To keep it moving. And breaking beats down, like starting off the verse really dead drum wise. Like just punchy kick and clap.

Then bring in the hi hat,808,and snare 1-4 bars into it. And I like just making it go freakin crazy in the chorus.Everything playing.

And to stop just before it starts. Those lil pauses make a world of difference.

If/when I Dj or spin stuff I'm always counting and throw in stuff at the last measure of a loop.Breaks stutters,fx,etc.

So that theory works with Dj'ing as well as composing.

I've been told I need to work on more reverb and delay fx in certain sounds. And subtle changes in drum beats a lil more.

Seriously you guys are freakin awesome. I may be the center of attention in this thread. But ya'll are very much the stars in my opinion.

From the bottom of my heart,I thank you guys a million!!!

Same goes for any of you that have taken the time to listen to what I've done and given your advice and opinions.

I really appreciate hearin what you guys think. Even if it's critical or harsh. I need that sort of advice.

All of you. Once again. Thank you, sincerely. :mates:

First of all Im very glad that you´ve shared your music ;) I was curious.
I like your sound;I think is very clean. It contains a well-balanced quality in which all is glued to taste.
It can perfectly be listened on whatever device, in fact I´m currently using bad speakers, and I receive a good load of sparky well-trimmed energy.
For the first track, I´m totally agreed money isn’t everything, in fact sometimes money gets in the way badly.
For the development of your track, I would infuse more progressive surprises to it.
My favorite is All or nothing, I like the darkish a fatal vibe of this one, a very cool track! Structurally it´s better, more varied and robust.
I had a nice time

Awwww [IMG],thank you so much Rolma!!!

It means a lot to me to hear your personal opinion, views,& experience.

And I just love your choice of words and how you talk Rolma.
It's a breath of artistic and creative fresh air.Your method of personal expression is very attractive.

It's nice to hear anyone speak highly of your work or compliment you.
But to get it from unique musicians and artists that I look up to and value... That is absolutely special & priceless to me. :mates:

I'm not used to having fans other than people I know locally. I kinda don't fit in most places I go.But I'm not trying to either...

I just love this place so much. I love that musicians and artists that listen to and primarily create completely different music than I do
take the time to listen and actually appreciate and critique what I do.It's so nice.I always try to do the same thing and step out of myself to feel their
    experience as well.

I love this community, there is no other place online I would like to be a part of.I don't want to be part of a group or community that functions solely on ego and how great they think they are.I'm so tired of that, you have no idea... When you see it everywhere you go in the real world,it really makes you appreciate places on the internet that aren't like that.

This place is like a lil utopia to me.

    :mates:

    Absolutely!

Oh the real world what a big mistake !
I think we share a whole body of ideas on here about ego, social advantage at any cost and so forth...
The real world is a bit unsatisfying in its complexity; paradoxically as complex as it is as predictable becomes.
I often find that the personal experience, the only possible, is replaced by an increasing random amount of bullshit based on blind support of ridiculous values, a dictatorship of gradable status symbols that burdens you with alien preoccupations to the grave.

Sorry I might sound awful... :wow:
