I haven't watched this thread in a while so I missed this. Seems very useful! It's especially useful for the newer versions where re-saving patches with missing samples is not possible. Excited to see how it goes.

One feature that would be great to have if possible: Some libraries come with Ensemble patches which only have a single mic position, e.g. Cinematic Studio Strings. If that particular mic position is to be deleted, the patch becomes useless. Would there be way to replace on mic position with another?

 

Shouldn't be hard I assume? Just seems like if you rename the file to something else it should work. I'll give it a shot and if it works I'll add it as an option. I could also try seeing if this could be done with symbolic links.

I just finished packing this all into an exe, just so the user doesn't need to bother installing python and such. I haven't tested this on many versions but I built it to target windows 10 only so far.

Here are a couple of preliminary images. It's quite ugly because I didn't really want to spend time on UI design.




For some reason, the performance of the program is drastically reduced whenever the console isn't opened. It's a weird thing that I'm working on fixing but for now, the easiest fix is just to have it open. Visually it's a little bit annoying I suppose but there's really no harm in having it open so it's not a high-priority fix for me.


Programs nowhere near done but I suppose it's good enough a state where if anyone wants to beta test it they could try giving it a shot? PM me if you want it and I'll try and send you a copy with a couple of instructions. I do want to test it around a bit more myself and make the code a little better before doing a full "release"

Although I did have a question for ya @rollerball or anyone who has tried reducing libs themselves. For your resampler are you using the default swr resampler with ffmpeg or soxr? I'm wondering if there's a huge quality difference in swapping over to soxr instead (I'm using swr right now)

 

Yes that is possible, but it will probably require making changes to the GUI of the library. For example, in the example I provided earlier, I could have renamed the "Main" mic samples to "Mix" so that the ensemble patch works. But that'd have required changing the GUI too, since then the fader for the Mix position would have controlled the volume of the Main mics. IIRC KONTAKT Creator Tools allows you to do this, but it hasn't been release yet.

I'd be interested to try it! I'd take a look at it as soon as I get some time.

I use iZotope RX 8 for the resampling duties, but don't know which resampler it uses.

 

I'd like to avoid patch editing as much as possible so renaming would probably be a last resort. The only alternative feature I can think of would be replacing all the mix samples with a symbolic ink to all the main samples. However I'm pretty sure that packing these things into nkx containers would totally break them, so if this is done it would have to be left as ncw files.

I'll take a crack at it though sometime and see if it works.
