Hey guys I'm trying to pull chords from MIDI and put them into something like cthulhu or a chord generator so I can arrange the chords easier. Is there anything similar to cthulhu where you can kind of just drag and drop MIDI into?

 

i think scaler by plugin boutiqe can do do that.

 

It could be Ezkeys and Melodyne, but it might not be as straightforward as the VST you mentioned, though the results are better.

Let's see, I'm not an expert in Scaler, but I've used it a bit. You can create a chord sequence and then drag and drop it into the DAW. You just need to hold down the mouse button and then release it over the track. It also has a section that generates rhythms, I believe. I mentioned EzKeys because you can record a MIDI sequence in EzKeys, then apply another rhythm, and it respects the sequence but changes the music style, for example, from pop to rock or dance on a piano. Then it's MIDI, you can use it with any instrument, and you can also add your own MIDI files to the folder, but as I mentioned before, it might be more tedious.

Later, with Melodyne, you can do something interesting, which is converting audio into chords. With Studio One, you can easily do this. Additionally, I think most DAWs come with default chord generators; S1 has one, I'm not sure which DAW you use.

By the way, with Scaler, you can also record MIDI from the DAW to Scaler. There's an option to record in Scaler. You can also record audio, and it recognizes the chord, then you can edit it and so on

 

I like to use Ripchord for exactly that purpose!

It can do the Scaler thing where it transposes every key to conform to any other given scale or every key triggering a chord. It includes some free chord presets and there are third-party chord presets inspired by different genres or songs.

It also does the MIDI drag and drop thing from your DAW timeline.

And the best thing: it's FREE!!

You can also drag midi into Scaler and it will create the chords.
Another plugin that can do that is Captain Chords Epic and also the upcoming version 12 of Ableton Live.

EzKeys2 Bandmate function with Wav file is really good. It is one of those you read about and it sounds like lots of BS you have heard before. But it actually works.

 

Truth be told, I wasn't familiar with this option in-depth; it's from Ezkeys 2. I just tried it with a song, but it misinterprets the chords. The thing is, I often play with major 7ths, ninths, but with different instruments. For example, on the guitar, I play an 'E major' chord, and on the piano, I play a 'B major.' Well, it's obvious it doesn't quite 'get' what I'm trying to do. However, I started editing the chords, and I really liked the rhythms. Actually, Ezkeys 1 doesn't have the audio option, but you can achieve the same with a chord progression and then add style. For instance, you play all the white notes in a 'chaaaaan' E chord, then B, and then A. Finally, close it with B again. Okay, you've got four chords. Now, record it in Ezkeys, then find a piano rhythm you like, select your chord progression, and bam! You get that same rhythm but with your chord progression! I showed someone a video of how to do this; they're not around anymore, but you probably know who I'm talking about since they talked to you. Maybe you know how it's done, but Toontrack's stuff is just crazy. As I mentioned earlier, it's not a walk in the park, unlike other programs that generate something basic, in my opinion. To me, it seems like these programs are more profound. But yeah, I agree with you; this option is really good, especially if you have a simple chord foundation; it recognizes them right away.

 

I am just impressed with it, because when I read the marketing my initial suspicion was that it would be junk. To do the similar or same operation to a wav file in Logic is more involved and it is a nice timesaving feature they added to the update v2. It actually works decently with some more complex material than you would expect to get away with. It isn't perfect, but I used v1 for quite some time and it is a nice addition to the software; so it beat my expectations. They were pretty low.

in studio one you can detect chords in audio or midi then send to chord bar on top.

then auto reharmonize samples and chords to them.
there is even an arranger bar
