I'd go with the Roland A800 if the OP thinks it's an option. It's a very nice controller.

I always feel reluctant to mention anything from Studio Logic; so many users had all sorts of "problems" with the Sledge and maybe even more importantly, the customer/technical support.
Not personal experience, but it nags me every time I consider a new KB controller for me; and then I back out of a Sludge2 purchase.

88 key SL adds about 900$ to this OP's target price range though.

 

The Studiologic Numa Compact 2 is also a very nice feeling keybed at a decent price

 

I didn't think these retailers were really allowed to do this to one another. but here is a good deal. 529usd for the Numa 88key . $220 difference on the same item, at every other retailer.
