Hi guys! It has been a long time since I last came here.
I have been interested in some neural-networks AI lately and tried it in the field of paintings. I also read about some neural networks to generate Midi files similar to a data base. I wanted to ask you if you guys have a collection of Midi files of a specific genre and a specific layer. For example, melodies from swedish house, or chords from trance. If they were from original songs I guess it would be better, but it's not that important at all.
If I make it run, I will post the results and try to post the code so that anybody interested can get some inspiration out of it ;)

There's tons of midi compilations, but if you're targeting useful midi's for algorithmic composition I'd look first in the "competence" sites which probably mention his test midi files.

Try searching "culitta", it's an open source project kind of the same type.

Google MIDI songs. Plenty there. Free MIDI everywhere.

how do you want to program such a artificial neural network for generating midis? (I'm interested in programming)

I only know a bit of theory, but neural network programming is one of the most powerful ways to achieve AI based on training. At the same time, very complex.

I'm almost sure one of the best free amp sim company/developer, Mercuriall, use this technology in some of its plugins. A truly state of the art company, uses wavelets, neural networks and volterra kernels (like Acustica Nebula etc, I think copyrights issues happened).
