As someone new to the game, I’m looking for feedback on the best way to route cables for MIDI and signal outputs.

Regarding MIDI, is it best to connect multiple pieces of gear by daisy chaining then via MIDI in’s / out’s or by using a MIDI Hub and possibly a MIDI Merge box. Pros / Cons? Are there particular brands/models of MIDI devices and cables to go for or stay away from?

Regarding signal outputs, is it best to connect directly to the interface inputs? I would like to use the Boredbrain patchbay to connect multiple effects pedals, but have concerns about adding a device between each piece of gear and and the interface, which could cause noise. Are there particular brands/models of cables to go for or stay away from?

Here is the gear I’m looking to connect: Novation SL 49 MKiii, Oberheim / Sequential OB-6, Roland MC-707, Roland Juno 106, Roland JX-03, Roland SH-01A, Roland System 1. My goal is to use the Novation as a controller for everything, with Ableton as the software, an RME Fireface UFX II as the interface and Adam A7v’s as the monitors.

    Thanks for the feedback!
