Microsoft Confirms Windows 10 Updates Cannot Be Stopped

    Here’s the official line:

“The software periodically checks for system and app updates, and downloads and installs them for you. You may obtain updates only from Microsoft or authorized sources, and Microsoft may need to update your system to provide you with those updates. By accepting this agreement, you agree to receive these types of automatic updates without any additional notice.”

In short: Windows 10 will automatically download and install updates and you have no option to switch them off.

It is just not true and forbes.com no trustworthy site for it related stuff.
It can be stopped by editing the registry or the group policies, respectively.
Plus, a pc that cannot access the internet cannot download updates.

Don't know why i feel like i'm the only one on Microsoft's side, i've been a tester from the build "9926" i liked the overall idea, and each update/new build they fixed a problem a made it better, yesterday one of my 5 computers was updated to the RTM version Pre-activated, not watermarked, and Stable as Hell, LOVED it, liked it and i'm certainly keeping it. it consumes less RAM, IT consumes LESS resources than 7 and 8/8.1, BETTER built-in Antivirus, and support's everything from 7.

auto Update don't delete your Installed Program or anything like that, it just updates the Windows, and i really liked the way they do it, didn't like the timing to be honest, but it's okey, cause it updates when you're not using the PC.

Imagine you get a Pre-activated Windows From Microsoft, with all your program already installed, it's like heaven here. (and saves you tons of time)

Ff you don't like it, give it a shot, you still don't, just search how to disable auto-update, there is a clean way, and stick with your shitty old OS (no offence) but Microsoft isn't doing all this for nothing, it cares about people security, and i just like the way they do it.

Thanks for the tip. I'm on Mac but was wanting to do the VM thing with Windows; looks like I'll be running W8 on it.

I uninstalled Garageband 10.1, the other day, soon after having installed it, because it helped itself to downloading over 2GB of "additional content," which fudged my aliases linking to libraries and loops on an external drive. No way to prevent G/b from doing this – so, out of fierce resentment of some software's arrogant intrusiveness, I showed it who's boss.

Windows Update Can’t Be Disabled (or Delayed) on Windows 10 Home

To ensure everyone is secure and up-to-date on a stable platform, Microsoft won’t allow Windows 10 Home systems to delay Windows updates. Updates will automatically download, and they’ll be installed when you next reboot, or you can schedule a reboot. You’re not allowed to disable WIndows Update entirely, and you’re also not allowed to put updates off if you don’t want to install them.

The only options are “Automatic (recommended)” and “Notify to schedule restart.”

you can, you just have to turn of the service via services.msc, enter that in the run window.
why do have the home version?

downloading now and testing in a VM.
but it should work, it always worked that way.

Just wait until one update crashes everyone. Big Corporations don't learn lessons from mistakes. MBA spells retard.
It has happened with XP and will probably happen with this auto update thingamajob. I'll try it if they pay me so I can say I told you so. :bleh:

It's happened with Vista and 7 as well. MS doesn't give a damn about its users, it does things that are in its self-interest. Who knows what kind of stuff MS can now silently push onto your PC, or how much info it can gather? Whatever happens, if something breaks after it's silently updated you're the one that's going to be stuck trying to fix it.

They did learn :) Home user = beta tester, no more worry of big corporations getting bad update MS save the day :)

Here’s what Microsoft says about this branch — which could potentially be worrying for Windows 10 Home Users:

“By putting devices on the Current branch for Business, enterprises will be able to receive feature updates after their quality and application compatibility has been assessed in the consumer market, while continuing to receive security updates on a regular basis….

By the time Current branch for Business machines are updated, the changes will have been validated by millions of Insiders, consumers and customers’ internal test processes for several months, allowing updates to be deployed with this increased assurance of validation.”

maybe disable updates work now, im think MS will try to close loopholes for future safety for corporations, beta testing must be done and disable update = $99 to MS.

While most computers will come with Windows 10 Home, you’ll also be able to use Windows 10 Professional. You can pay $99 to upgrade a computer from Home to Professional. If you were previously using Windows 7 Pro or Windows 8 Pro, you’ll get Windows 10 Professional when you upgrade. Windows 10 Professional will have the ability to delay Windows updates.

Upgrade from pro or pay $99 to stop updates :)

just because there is no button titled "turn off automatic updates" it doesn't mean they cannot be disabled.
