I set aside a budgeted amount to spend on microphones, bought more than budgeted and still had to get one more. Please, is there a 12 step program or support group for people like me? Stop me before I shop again! I found a blemished one of these on sale and bought it because I like Blue mics and I think I'll have to try this one on stage for some visual impact. That is my rationalization, anyway. OK, I'm done buying new stuff for a while. Honest. Really. I promise, Honey. Just this one last time. http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/Reactor

    1st step is always acknowledgement.

There is a vague rumour that Neumann will have a reissue of the U67 .....

Hey man, i wonder what the 12 steps to cure this would be? whenever i feel like going on a bender i buy myself something instead. its healthier. i would also buy loads of mics if i had the cash. maybe sh though, new stuff loses so much. good luck

Probably the only sure step is when the money runs out, then next thing you know, you're breaking into studios to steal your fix.

OK, tried this thing out. Pretty decent microphone, and everybody is blown away by it's looks. I think I like my Rode NT2-A on my voice a little better, but that is getting pretty picky. Since I have a tube pre-amp with variable impedance, I can change the characteristics of either one quite a bit. I think it's keeper.

How about the Sure SM58, or a SM57? Classic workhorses.

Feridan is right about the Shures. Or for the same money, instead of the SM58, I can highly reccomend the Sennheiser E835. I use all three and am falling in love with Sennheiser's E series mics.

    Mics and preamps.

    And compressors.

And anything that makes a sound.

Oh, BTW I ran across this video the other day and became completely enthralled by the singer. Christine Smit. What a talent.

It's fun to compare mics even if the audio quality isn't that great on YT, but you still get somewhat an idea if you listen to the 1080 mp4 (sadly no link to WAVs). I think the little Shure (it's at 7:46) holds its own pretty well.

I am a 'SERIOULY OBSESSED' , microphone user & collector.
In my own primo stock / (mic's I use everyday in my studuio total
to around $11,000.00 !) ; ok , maybe not a huge number in cash dollars
compared to companies like full sail or the recording workshop here in
massyville , OH. / (as to which , Ive werked there off and on since
    1982).

But I totally 'Adore' microphones !!
Ive even gone as far as taking two workshop course's on "dental-sibilance"
.... the how & what mic to use on individual people , 'by the way there teeth
and mouth move together while singing'
    .

Here's some nice sites , you may NJ0y seeing different vintage style mic's ,
while gaining info about 'polar patterns' , and how to understand decibal
thresholds and peaks within the ranges of dynamic & condenser mic's.

I hope you NJ0y these sites as much as I do ; (ie: BE SURE to have a towel
ready !!) .... in order to keep you from drooling "all over yer keyboard & monitor !!"

Dental sibilance was a big problem on the later Roy Orbison stuff. I was forced to listen to him because Peel played him on his show occasionally.

Told you it would have some eye candy appeal. My expression is one of being soulful, although it looks more like pain in this photo. May have been painful to somebody. And I got no money for the Red Bull product placement. [IMG]
