No it was a community site for artist to gather, do remixes, host groups, and get involved with each other. It got acquired by Native Instruments, then became a bit of a money grab. Until it disbanded due to the parent company no longer finding value in it.

 

Don't know if the remixes ended, but the official remixes ran by NI, contest involving some more established acts, and labels sizzled out. However, Sommerklänge and TvMcC (neither of which officially worked for Metapop) attempted to keep up with the community by hosting Beat Battles, and various other contest on discord. Sommerklänge, has had a few prize driven contest from NI, and a few other companies I think as well...

Surely, most people have realized "contests" are a waste of time at best, pure bs at worst. It's like some version of America's Got Talent, where the blind guy throwing axes at his one-armed wife gets sent home for the three-legged dog act instead.

1. my comment was to joke.
2. you do not know that anyone actually "won cash and prizes" in a contest. Some "winning remix" could already be done and selected before a contest is even posted.
3. Is it something you would have even considered remixing on your own? Or maybe you need the extra practice?
4. If you wanted someone to give your demo, mix, etc a listen; do you think burying it in a pile of a few hundred other simultaneous submissions of the same track is a good way to do that?
5. is the "best track" usually the winner or is it ranked by most "clicks and likes"? You cannot even say, unless you were able to listen to all the other submissions.
