    I don't usually get my primary musical influences from material that is less than 20 years old, but I will make an exception for Mercury Rev. They've arrived a year early :)

    Yes, very inspirational sounds.

    Here's an interesting piece of trivia. Did you know about the sister album? While Mercury Rev were recording Deserter's Songs, they shared instruments, technology, studio and producer with The Flaming Lips who were recording The Soft Bulletin. There was a lot of cross-pollination going between the two sets of musicians.

    Furthermore, Jonathan Donahue used to play guitar for the Flaming Lips, while producer Dave Fridmann is a former bassist of Mercury Rev!

    I LOVE Mercury Rev.
    But I largely prefer the first era (with David Baker).
    So Yerself Is Steam and Boces are my favourite albums.

    My first introduction to the band was this early track, which I came across on a compilation CD.
