I decided to hack my 2018 MBP fans. In bootcamp the max I could get was 6000RPM. Using a handy lil tool I found called Cheat Engine along with Macs Fan Control for Windows. I've bumped them up to 8k RPM. SO far so good & the old gal is about 20 C cooler when running under Ultimate Performance Power Scheme with a load of 8 instances of Arturia Analog Lab.... Wondering if you guys think I'm stressing my fans too much or just go with it? Replacement fans would only be $40 if they break.

The sound of my 2013 MBP at 6000RPM is unbearable. Couldn't imagine 8K.

Do you know for fact, or are you just guessing that only the $40 part will break?

There is no way I would do it. I would try to figure out how to not need to do it. Something like getting rid of synths that have so many bitmaps installed for them which were making me need to do it; or whatever caused you to be looking into it.

you are stressing the fans. my best advice is to put a better thermal solution (some thermal grizzly stuff should help. also liquid metal, the problem is that it is dangerous to apply and for the computer if it makes contact with the circuit)

Same I have a 2019 8-core i9 and when the fan kicks in it sounds like a fuckin hoover. Moved to a 2023 Mac Mini now which is silent and a million times less destracting when producing.

I don't think fans would break sooner if they'll be running at consistent speed,
it's a mechanical component, so lifespan is still a bit lottery,
what's more concerning is amount of dust accumulating inside your macbook due to much more airflow sucking dirt in,
also keep in mind temperature difference between 6000rpm and for ex. 3000rpm can be fairly minimal depending on other conditions...

    Yes.
And particles that were previously too heavy are also sucked in simply because the force of the air flow is greater.
Sooner or later, the fan will no longer be able to cool the components sufficiently (despite the highest fanspeed), because the cooling capacity is not (or no longer) proportional to fan speed.
    Than funny things may happen.

I think, Apple has constructed the chassis, components and the fan in a way that at 6,000rpm the cooling guarantees that components will work(=cooling solution. Plus a security margin). Beyond this = ?

I've seen speeds ramp up to 8.5k for short bursts in MacOS. & Ive seen maintained speeds up to 7k in MacOS.... I might go back to 7.5k & call it a day.... Thanks for the input fellas. If it breaks, it breaks. I need an excuse to buy another computer anyways lol
