my view on the two sides to all these conflicts

in general on a forum like ours, differences and then fights based solely on you having a different view on the "ideas", perceptions, philosophies, techniques or sciences presented by the OP of a thread are not worth taking to any higher level than maybe a couple of specific clarifications from your side, but then thats it! its over.

some people will then want to argue the reason why they "need" to pursue these lengthy fights is because they feel they must "save other members from getting tricked or misguided" but in reality you are not "saving" anyone. other members have their own minds and can think and take care of themselves.

they dont need you to tell them what you think is true or false more than once.

they dont need you to reveal, disclose or unfold any "truth", and definitely not over tens of posts full of name-calling and bullshit.

when you choose do that, you are simply having a fight and being a dick because you want to. its about you, your ego. you just use the pretext of "others" to justify your own tantrums.


now, on the other hand

when the content of a thread or comments is, or you witness the ridiculing, persecution of a member across multiple threads, ill disguised personal attacks, the bullying of another member, the instigation of racism, someone being systematically condescending and disrespecting others or hiding their psychosis and hate with "cute" smilies or infantile memes, THOSE THINGS ARE NOT TO BE TOLERATED IN ANY WAY.

those actions are to be denounced at once, directly and confronted all and every time with full determination, exposed, never accepted and reported as many times as needed.

If you are a prolific poster with views on everything then you're going to cop flak (not to be confused with flac) and you're going to be wrong quite often and/or wander into grey areas where there is a lot of disagreement. Get a thick skin if taking on this role. Maybe it shouldn't be like that, but it is.

Personal attacks do, sometimes, have a place in a debate if credibility is an issue but, otherwise, they should be moderate and, from what I see around here, are done so pretty quickly. The answer is learn to ignore it, take it on the chin etc... or step back a little and bounce to a new track if need be (I don't see a need for that).

Creating a thread like this probably doesn't do the OP any favours but you live and you learn.

Me <- been bouncing trolls of my elephant's hide for decades. Can't recommend that solution highly enough.

 

would be great if people would resort to some kind of rigor in supporting their "theories"... unfortunately this is not easy
to be enforced, and not likely to happen unless OP is serious about having some integrity. Try asking a troll to do that?

The ultimate nightmare for a troll/hater is to be ignored. The answer is simple - don't bother reporting them, absolutely don't respond to them however tempted you feel, just blank them as if they don't exist. These people feed on recognition so don't give it to them.
