I'm going to apologize right now for my question... if it offends anyone.

As much experience as I have with composing and software... I know absolutely nothing about NI's Maschine.

So... with that said, I have been trying to find out if Maschine (the software) can be used inside of any DAW without owning the hardware controller pad. I've been confused over time, reading about the software and the hardware and people using it separately. Then I got to thinking... "is the software now independent of the hardware?" :dunno:

So... in essence, to make my question simple: Do I still need to buy and own the Maschine hardware to use the Maschine software in my DAW?
    :wow:

Thank you (in advance) for your kind and helpful response(s)... :beg:

Yes, the vst will work in your DAW without the hardware. No, you do not need to buy the hardware if you don't want to :mates:

Of course you can use Maschine software without Maschine hardware inside your favorite DAW.

But, (IMO) it's a nonsense to use the software without controller, the main essence of Maschine is the couple software/hardware, together.

Can you imagine Laurel without Hardy? not sure... :dunno:

As stated above, you can, but it's not really fun.
The workflow is streamlined to work with the controller.

I agree. That is how i used to use maschine...without the hardware. However, everytime i think back to using just the software, i want to smack myself for once doing this. Trust me, the experience lies in owning the hardware along with it. SOOOOOO much more fun and intuitive. Save up and buy the hardware. Trust us on this. Even if it's just the mikro. But the Maschine Studio is where it's at. All the others have the same functionality though and comes down to a matter of preference or even desk space.

heres my 2 cents: the software was made for the hardware so, unlike ableton push...the hardware can do EVERYTHING you need and quickly. Its very efficient. Using the software without the hardware i tried once opening a project when my maschine was at home and let me tell you...i can literally think of 0 reason why you would wanna do that. its like opening a daw designed for a controller (especially browsing is so fast with the controller) without the benefit of said controller...inside of another daw. Best comparison I can think of is this: running maschine inside of ableton or logic is like taking a ducati motorcycle and ripping the handle bars off (maschine sans controller) and throwing it in the trunk of a light weight sports car (ableton) effectively making it more heavy and slower. If you are thinking of doing this for the sounds take the samples and put in your sampler. I have found maschine to use slightly more cpu to run vsts inside it than just directly running them in ableton btw.

Prople? What is a prople?

Sorry my question was not answered anywhere on the internet as I have searched...
I compose professionally, some film and some advertising but mostly for American television but I want access to the libraries from Maschine... nothing else, for my own production library and trailer catalog.

Thank you for the quick replies...

Oh, you don't need maschine to browse the libraries.
The folder structure of maschine libraries looks like

    -documentation
    -groups
    -projects
    -samples
    -sounds

The audio files are in the samples folder, not encrypted or anything.

makes no sense whatsoever to me. the only real power, and great power that is, that maschine has, is the software/controller combo. that's where the meat is at. if you try do go software only, or work your way around it with regular midi controllers you'll be missing out on exactly that what it is that makes maschine so successful. just my 2c though. hope you make it work!

I tried too. Nonsense, even with a third party controller
Better go with Geist or something like that, running standalone or plugged.
