The present day music industry as well as the toilet called the movie/film industry all bases its success factor on how much money/hype can be thrown at an artist or band. Success is not measured in quality, knowledge or actual popularity anymore. It's all about who the money supports. There was a time when the business was an open market where the best and brightest who had something to offer just naturally sifted to the top of the pile. These days two seconds of fame on a "UBooB" clip will make some monkey famous for a minute until the next news cycle comes along. There was a time when the business "buzz" was not an instantaneous button press away - there was not instant access from fans to the artists or bands as there is now. There was this thing called the "press" that acted as a buffer which rendered a level of mystique where nothing was truly known about an artist or band unless the artist or band wanted it known. Now every monkey on the street corner has a camera pointed at you where nothing escapes the public eye and becomes "buzz" almost instantaneously.

The "marshmallow" is a product of this new age of the music biz where less substance and more junk exists that ever before. If something manages to peak out from underneath the noise floor of mediocrity it is instantly consumed until the next slightly less than mediocre peak arrives on the scene. In ten years no one will remember it because its not memorable. No one will care because it's without substance. No one will recall it being unique because it sounds like everything else under the sun. This is where I place most all late pop, hiphop, rap, and edm. It's unfortunate but it mostly all just exists in a vacuum because there is so much of it out there now it has all become just flotsam in a breeze of redundancy.

And no, I do not identify as a boomer, gen-x, gen-y, millennial, or any other generation shaming tag that monkeys these days like to toss at a bitch. I am just trying to illuminate the terrain on which we currently find ourselves deployed.

im not so sure about that. There are Marshmello impersonators that are being booked for little kids bday parties. But yah, as a whole statement holds some truth.

 

I get a little sad when a person that made that amount of money with music can't feel guilty about that. I think a lot of people here would love to get the money he had to buy plugins from not-scam devs and quality audio gear. The only case i support the use of warez on any scenario is when the warez works better than legit product, but you should buy the legit in any case to prove you own the software. It's not the case here with our little marshmellow.

You aren't wrong, but you forgot to be all-inclusive... ya'know, unless there's been some grand reawakening of Rock, Metal, etc., that's currently headlining and live as mf'er. And don't forget Opera, Bluegrass, and Polka. In your rush to paint the picture we all took a snapshot of decades ago, you seem to have overlooked that everything that has any merit or substance has been relegated to being "underground" music, shit that we have to dig for now.
No musical genre is exempt from getting absorbed by The Machine and spit back out as something palatable for the masses so as to be profitable for the few; it's the result of unchecked, now late-stage capitalism... but this time it's global, so we're proper fucked.

Incidentally, you've been misinformed—you don't get to choose what generation you "identify" as, that's not how it works.

I'm not proud of it, but this low-key moonlighting gig is how I can still afford smokes in 2025.

 

when do you guys get its just someone like million others who just knows everything and figured it all out when lecturing others but you would be shocked if you knew how his life looks like in reality and his behavour and constant output allready telling so much . while actually takin all way to plain simple what it isnt and is allready full of misinterpretation about humans ,socials,politics and economics and coming up with totalarian solutions and funny proposals where you can derive from this dude has zero clue about current reality and his life is miles away from his own proposels .
