Its mostly about who you know. Having some success can help, a song that went viral, or multiple placements, indie or major, etc. The large majority is networking though. Just getting out there, meeting people, and getting in sessions. Take any and every session you can when first starting out. Most of them will result in nothing. If your lucky, you will get a song to pitch around, but most will never end up getting placed. The more you take sessions, the more likely you are to have a song placed or to get word of mouth rec's for more sessions and so on. Even if you are extremely talented, it can still take years for something to happen. Its more about consistency, dedication, hard work etc than it is about talent.

According to the motto, you just have to work hard and a few crumbs will fall from the table of the powerful in the music industry. If you can make money with your talent, you will be supported and the majority of the profits will not go to you, but to the bosses and investors.

Greed for wealth and fame? Think about how you can make your life meaningful and be independent and free.

Otherwise you will make yourself a slave to an exploitative system, which will cost you your strength and creativity in the long run.

Start your own label, get involved in other self-managed artistic projects and team up with other artists.
Better to be poor and happy than stressed and exhausted!

 

Personally, i dont find it exhausting or stressful, but i get what you are saying. I find it fun! sure it can be challenging at times, but so is running your own label etc. I also don't give the majority of my earnings away. My publisher takes some, but they also get me placements and in rooms. I find my life meaningful, i help others create art, as well as creating for myself.

 

As we say, a profession comes from a calling and I think it's great that you're talking about your own personal experiences here. Beautiful sentences from you that also give courage and also highlight the positive aspects of the work itself. I think contentment and serenity are good things in life, but sometimes you have to fight for something or keep it.

My main aim was to prepare the next generation or young people for the reality of life or to warn them, because talking is the only thing we can do here. Or in other words, to make them think. Because a forum or the Internet is a collection of knowledge that is available to almost everyone.
