in order to save RAM & CPU, you can make several sessions of the same tune/song ( one with drums, one with synths, guitars, vocals, etc ), and you can, for example, bounce, your drum tracks & bass ( but still have them separately in their own sessions ) in order to layer your synths, and other instruments as you get farther into the composing process

in that case, they are useful to spot your chorus, verse, intro, outro sections.
it can also help you locate the different sections to copy paste when needed, or jump from one section to another depending on your settings and use.

I use them in every single project to mark the different parts, additional sounds or fx.

I made keycommands to jump to previous and next marker and find this extremely useful.

it can be used for mixing live ( and switching from parts to parts )
or to ease the mixing and automation process ( saying, for example, that you have a specific section where you have to enable / disable a bunch of plugins ( compressor with a specific ratio you will temporarily replace with another one, multiple FX / EQ sends specific to this section, multiple tracks volumes, etc.. )
in Logic, you can add several sets of markers - and name them, which is really useful

never use markers, and hate it when samplitude automaticly made them, when I record
but after reading comments here, I think:
mmhh, maybe I should overthink it
maybe it can really make a better/quicker workflow by marking parts, like No Avenger(and other Members) says

I'll spend hours just jamming with VCV Rack, Reaktor and Maschine then recording the output into a DAW. The markers are essential when playing back and resampling. Regions in Reaper are just as, if not more, useful.
