MacBook Pro 2015 15" battery & trackpad issues

  1. Hello

A while ago I posted about my MacBook Pro 2015 15" having battery issues, specifically shutting down randomly without warning.

This all came to a head a few weeks ago when it shut down randomly and then I was given a battery service waring when I managed to get the Mac up and running again.

I ended up having the battery replaced but a few days after getting it back I noticed that when I was holding the MacBook or was holding it at an angle there would be a Big thud sound coming from the MacBook, specifically around where the battery is located.

The weird thing is I have had it open to see what was loose and there is nothing loose at all...everything is secured in and I can't move or lift any of the battery cells up...they're solid as anything.

My first thought was the adhesive had gone which secured the battery but I can't see how this can be...

Also upon the loud thud starting my trackpad (which was replaced not too long ago) has started to not turn off when I shut the Mac down.

When the MacBook shuts down I get the black screen as per usual, but then that just hangs and the trackpad keeps on 'clicking' so I am forced to have to hold the power button down to force it to shut down.

I have no idea what is going on here, but I started doing it when the battery originally started to fail. It seemed to have stopped when I got the MacBook back but when thud sounds started, the trackpad issue started again.

Has anyone had this issue, or does anyone know how to sort this?

I would prefer not to take the MacBook back to the shop that replaced the battery as it also came back with a huge scratch on the lid.

    Hi

Any chance you can run the Mac with the bottom case off to see whether it's a stuck fan. These 2015's were notorious for fans getting stuck or noisy after a battery change. Are these 2015s discontinued now and did you get a third party battery fitted? If you think it may be stuck then try PRAMming the machine a few times before rebooting.

  4. After I looked at it and gave it a little shake to see if anything was loose, once the case was back on it didn't seem to do it anymore...but the thuds were intermittent when I first noticed them

Hi! I had early 2015 for about a year or so (A1205), I bought it for a ridicules price and change the battery at home. After I've changed it I found out that I destroyed the cable that connecting between the trackpad and the motherboard. Waited for 1 month for the cable to arrive only to find out that I accidentally destroyed the trackpad too... So I've waited another 1 month for the new trackpad to arrive, replaced it and all good now. From my research I found that after some years the battery began to swell, and it start to short circuits, and the nearest one that it can destroy it's the trackpad.

There is an advisory for your battery on the 2015 MacBook Pro. see:
    https://support.apple.com/15-inch-macbook-pro-battery-recall

Note, that when a product recall occurs; it can/will cover parts and labor on units that are outside of their original OEM warranty. Product recalls occur due to Safety Issues like heat and fire. Otherwise a Service Advisory is issued. When a part fails and is part of a Service Advisory, usually the customer is responsible for the labor and the part is covered under what is called a Warranty Policy Adjustment.

The bluetooth Magic Trackpad is great btw. I use it in Logic all the time. My Laptop lives in a Arc stand and tower obviously doesn't come with a trackpad. I love the thing, unlike the Magic Mouse. What a piece of junk. :)
