    Hi
    While collaborating over the net,
How do you instruct a vocalist on your song lyrics? So that he knows where (on which note) exactly each word/syllable is, etc

I'd like to create for a vocalist a 'karaoke video' in which lyric syllables 'jump' in sync with the vocal melody - Do you know a better software for this than "AV Video Karaoke Maker" ?

(I can't sing, so I won't record me singing the lyrics)

    cheers!

If your vocalist can use a daw, you may send some files to her/him. An mp3 or wave file (instrumental) and a midi file for vocals.
If your vocalist don't use a daw, you may send the midi file as a piano track or flute or a vox sound.

So, I don't think you need to make a karaoke video.

So you send a vocalist only a piano track with the vocal melody and a text file (with the lyrics) ?

And the vocalist has to figure out which note relates to which word?

The easiest way would be to just do a rough vocal sketch for him/her to follow...even if as you say you can't sing, it would be enough for a guide I'd think.

hello I m a singer and personally I find very misleading to follow written lyrics on the screen, about karaoke
the best thing is to have a text at hands
now here the problem is that the singer doesn t know the song, but the flute or piano lead option would work
even if you cannot sing, you could do it then use some Melodyne or Autotune, to give the singer more precise guidelines
keep in mind that every musician pretends some freedom to change something here and there
    especially singers

If your singer is a pro trust their judgement. Your melody or phrasing may bog them down more than just letting them sing their style.

Just sayin' that's how to get a great vocal track. A little guidance is a good thing, Every syllable has to be in the right place sounds like a hell session and could yield bad results.

ps. Their version might be better than yours, They know their voice and what it is capable of and how to make it shine!

  10. Phrasing for a vocalist is one part of ther art of storytelling in song. Let him hear the melody, see the lyric and the chart...then get out of the way and let him do his part. After his takes of the vocal track come back for you to hear, if there are a few instances where you feel he has missed the mark, then and only then make suggestions about how it can better conform to your vision. Just imagine handing a song to Sinatra, Elvis Costello or Elle Fitzgerald (and for that matter, Adamdog or myself) and saying, "Sing it exactly the way I want you to". The song would never be recorded and you would never again have the opportunity or privilege of having an artist of their caliber render your work once the story began making the rounds in their circle of friends, artists and associates. One needs to gently foster art in collaberation, not run it over with a stream roller. Flat is boring.

  14. I no longer have the range to sing the song in that register without screaching. My voice went through something like a second puberty last fall. I just don't have the reach anymore.

Ken Tamplin moves his tongue in a very strange way while hitting high notes
for what I know... exactly the opposite of the correct lyric singing technique
with this I don t mean that I don t like him, he s a talented singer

at the video end he states that he can teach how to become a singer who's... better than anyone else. is it a statement you d expect from a teacher? lol
