if you must have budget ones then Shure SRH440 are reeaally good for the price you get them today. the only problem is they are bit heavy and can be tiring on your skull. i used to solve it with a strip of cotton taped on the inside of the headband, then they felt perfect. they are very clear and are made for mixing, its not the kind you will be wearing for casual listening outside.

They were brand new. i would have stated other wise. I was totally blown away also. New $50 bucks.

I did invest in the better ear pads. Since I have noticed that they will flake after a while. So I got a pair of the Beyerdynamic soft cusion from.

it is not going to make a difference in that price range, whatever one "speaks to you" will work.

 

Now, that was a deal! I would have purchased 10 pairs and sold them here for $75 a piece. Are you sure they are not "fake" lol. You can not find them for less than $85. Lucky you.

 

Sometimes we fall in love with expensive toys that we can not afford. Some other times we think that a piece of gear that cost more is better. Sometimes that is not the case.The only situation in which more expensive equals better is when you are dealing with the same brand. If your budget is $150 dollars my advice to you is to go to a pro shop and try every headphone they have up to that price and test them. Only then chose the one that you liked the most, regardless of the price and regardless of what we have told you and you have read.

 

For 130-150, imo something like the akg k702 will be a huge step up.

That's true. For example I am actually a real synthesizer that can make really interesting fart sounds. I'm only worth $1, but of course that's still much better than the most expensive ones out there ;)

But to be honest I actually still fall into that sometimes. Or something that I really was looking at when I was looking for headphones is how high the frequency spectrum was. I have found out with testing that some headphones with a lower frequency spectrum can still sound better than ones with a higher frequency spectrum. So I think that's something you shouldn't look at it that much. Probably also because of the fact that people can't hear higher than 20kHz, isn't it? So then what's the point? Altough, today somebody told me that it can help to make everything more transparant and more cleaner. There are probably so many aspects to it that only with testing you could find one which one will work the best for you.

By the way for example Sony claims that some of their headphones are Hi-Res. What do you think? Is that more used for marketing or does it really make sense?
